Pigeons mate for life; Once the simple nest is built, the female lays an egg & then another a day or 2. The incubation period is 17 to 19 days. The female sits on the egg from evening through the night until 12AM daily. The male then takes over & does the day shift. Timing means everything for them, they are unbelievably smart.

The main reasons why we start pigeon as pets are because they are mentioned on the bible more than twice & in World War 1, In 1918, A Pigeon Saved The Lives Of 194 American Soldiers.

(Coming up next...) Once the eggs hatch, both parents feed the young squabs. The 1st food is pigeon milk, a cheesy substance that appears in the crops of the parents at hatching time & is fed for a week or 2. Then the adults start regurgitating partially digested grains for the young. By the time the squabs are ready to fly, about 4 weeks, the father is doing most of the feeding. The squabs are fed for another week to 10 days after they are ready to fly.
