Emmy, the diamond symbol with Y is not a specifically Danish marking but an international shipping requirement. It is called a "Limited Quantity Hazard Symbol", and is required for international shipments that contain hazardous materials that can only be shipped in - you guessed it - limited quantities, lest they catch fire and endanger a vessel or aircraft. This symbol with the Y in the center denotes it is safe for AIR transit. The same symbol without the Y denotes ROAD or OCEAN transit. I can only assume that the symbol is present here incase this pack contains a chemical heater, which it clearly does not in this case. Possibly it is a relic of a time when they routinely did include such a thing, or a better-safe-than-sorry, belt-and-braces approach to shipping safety. I hope that helps.

I think without realizing... you've become a staple of the really niche MRE Review people, I subbed simply for your MRE reviews, thanks for the content :)

In Denmark, a comedian and candidate for the "cooperation of consciously workshy elements" (a mock-party) was elected in 1994. One of his key issues was "Nutella in the rations", and afterwards a chocolate spread was included - it was removed again in 2010.

Danish Soldier here... now... lets see... those bloody fruit n' fun tubes are universally hated in my platoon... because before those there were proper porridge in the rations... apple porridge, wild berries porridge, strawberry porridge. put that bad boy on the heater in a vehicle in the morning and you got yourself hot apple porridge in the cold winter mornings... a freaking life saver... or it used to be like that... until Fruit n' Fun came along... the ration should contain a chemical heater for the main course and a pack of matches but i believe they have been removed for shipping... the toothbrush contains some kind of dental powder coating that has a slight minty flavor... pretty cool if you like having your mouth filled with the hairs of the brush because that shit is some low quality... xD there is a version of the ration that contains freeze dried menus but that is for summer use... the winter ration has what is referred to as wet menus which is what you got... look at the box and you will see that it says wet on the side... the winter rations also has an extra main course for those extra calories needed in the winter :D some time ago there was a packet of mayonnaise in the rations... mix that with Tuna, salt, peber, hot sauce and you've got yourself a surprisingly good tuna salad for your bread :D

When I was younger I used to be a scout (Well in Denmark it's called being a 'Spejder' and boys and girls are not divided), and as we lived near an army base we used to get the 24-hour ration packets, that the army didn't need af they had been on an exercise. And the packets that I remember used to have different kinds of stewed fruits, and nobody wanted the one made from prunes.

In Denmark we serve chili con carne over rice most of the time, so that's probably why the rice is mixed in.
  • I was so sad that I ran out of these videos - thanks Emmy! I never thought I'd enjoy you trying MREs this much haha!!
  • Danish soldier here. I know the video is old but it just popped up. I've only been on exercises where we didn't have much time to eat, so we got pretty creative on how to eat. First of all. We would never take the tuna or the macarel (that we now have instead of lime tuna) and put it over the bread. We would squeeze a bit of fish out of the package into the mouth and then take a bite of the bread. And I'd do the same with the paté. Most people didn't like the paté so I'd have a bunch lol The main course got... Interesting. We would heat it up with water and then put in our tuna, spicy sauce and pour a salt and pepper package into it and then stir it around. And yes. It's as disgusting as it sounds. The breakfast was the good meal. We would take it and pour our cocoa powder into it and dump a package of sugar into it. Actually made it taste pretty good. We would never make an energydrink by pouring it into our canteen. We would take some powder and place it inside the mouth, kinda like snuff, and then drink some water to get the taste. All the little snacks we would carry in our pockets and eat throughout the day. Everything that we didn't pack in our pockets we would put inside the plastic bag and put the bag in our backpack so we didn't have to carry the box. And those biscuits. We called them "Cork cracker" 'cause you would not need to go do a #2 after eating one of those. The raw bite is great. It's filled with energy and you feel it instantly. But it feels like eating a dry brick. And man... That Toffee bar was the highlight of a day in the field :D

I went back over this three times and didn't see you try the breakfast cereal I'll watch again and I do love watching you try everything lol
  • Even though there's no toothpaste included in the pack, you'll be fine because the toothbrush is coated with dry toothpaste. It's really good on the go.
