The Third Book of Enoch claims to be the account of a mystical vision of Heaven. Notably, it portrays Enoch transforming into the 2nd most powerful being in the universe: the Archangel Metatron.

Can't help but to think of Transformers-like robots whenever I read the word 'metatron'.
  • @grapeshot
Book of Enoch, Genesis the Director Cut.That and the Book of Jubilee.
  • @cunjoz
Enoch's transformation into Matatron is basically the 3rd impact

It always threw me that the name Metatron didn't follow the typical angel naming convention of adding "iel" to a root.

A few hours after listening to this i went to a trivia night where one of the questions was "name the two people in the bible taken up to heaven without dying." We got the points thanks to you! (My team looked at me a bit funny when i said "oh yeah, i was just listening to a video on the book of Enoch.")

Wow, I can't believe he became a Decepticon. What a twist!

I love that you describe Enoch's transformation into Metatron as increasing his power level. Was waiting to hear you say if he could beat Goku.

I'm very impressed by Enoch's transformation not as religious text, but as a piece of ancient cosmic body horror. Commonly literature history doesn't talk about body horror before the modern era (e.g. Frankenstein or The Metamorphosis), but it's very easy to see what God did to Enoch to create Metatron in those terms.

I once had a dream where God came to me in an Arby's. Maybe I should write 4th Enoch.

Thank you for breaking down these texts, you were the reason for my initial interest in learning about these stories

I propose the hypothesis that the Books of Enoch were the first DLCs/expansion packs in history. The devs knew one sentence about Enoch randomly thrown in would arouse the interest and imagination of the readers who'd demand more. And so they received, one expansion pack about Enoch in three DLCs. A new quest/campaign with lots of new and expanded lore, new characters and costumes/skins and also included a flashy Angel Armor which initially the publishers wanted to be a separate DLC that cost quite a pretty shekel, but changed their mind later on. The expansion received overwhelmingly positive reception from fans and critics alike. The reason why they became forgotten was because the original title got ported to other more popular systems under a new publisher who saw no value in porting the DLCs as well, instead opting to create new ones from scratch. The Books of Enoch regained popularity when the modding scene found the source code for the DLCs and polished and remastered them releasing them on torrents under the name Genesis Expanded HD-MOD Unofficial Patch.

I think of Metatron from Dogma, played by Alan Rickman.

The book of Enoch would make a great movie. And since very few people treat it as scripture you wouldn’t offend a lot of people like often happens when movies are made of actual Bible stories.

I am developing a video game that takes place in the distant past and involves many of these biblical characters. After watching many of your videos and some on other channels, I convinced my time that Metatron was absolutely necessary to add as a character because he is just so unique and interesting to me. We are having the player start by meeting him as Enoch and then later in the game seeing him as Metatron. Thanks for the wonderfully informational videos! <3

People when they hear "Metatron" imagine either ; 1. a Pokémon 2. a tranformer
  • @JaelaOrdo
Enoch turned into Metatron and started a YouTube channel where he talks about history
  • @BriGuy-ed5dr
I've been waiting for this video since I found the channel. Can't wait.
  • This is very interesting in contrast to the Trinity in Christianity. I'd also love to see a video on the divine council in the Bible like Heiser's work.

What timing with the topic, and the use of Star Wars as an example! The most recent episode of Ahsoka, the new Star Wars series, just introduced a side character named Enoch!
