It's a great radio. It was a gift to me for my 70th birthday and getting my general license. Also used on my first POTA activation. Now my main radio. Just need to really set it up properly to fully use it. Have fun. 73's KG7COA

FT-710 is a great radio with incredible ears, I use it for POTA

Great! Now, I need a FT-710.

Aloha Steve, as I watched this video, I was thinking that only really super clear transmissions only exist in Hollywood movies. π I got to hang out with Chuck the last time he came to Honolulu when he activated Kahana State Beach Park and it started raining and we had to quickly load his radio and equipment into my Jeep until the rain stopped. BTW, Chuck of Ham Radio Adventures just put out a really great video on Saturday on how he builds his own DIY Solar Generator and he used some tools that I just donβt own yet, that I will buy maybe today. π First, I gotta find a seller willing to ship me a LifePO4 50 A/h battery. π Great video, Steve! You guys make this hobby fun and fascinating! Mahalo! Todd WH6DWF πΊπΈ

Very kind of Chuck to let you steal his RV, radio and dawg. Lolπ

So much solar activity lately. Most of the bands have been S9+6 noise floor at my QTH. Still worth being persistent and trying to make the contacts anyway. If the world ends from a Yellowstone eruption just do like Woody Harrelson in 2012 and broadcast it. lol. Safe travels and have fun Steve!

If this was made on Sunday, instead of being on the air, I was at the Berryville Hamfest in Clarke County Virginia

Love my Ft-710... Picked it up when it was on sale, last Feb. Broke it out for it's first activation during this past SYP weekend, it was just a joy of an activation. I was easily pack it (plus power cables & mic), a 30Ah battery (or my PSU), and a Mini-PC/RPi for digital ops in an Apache 4800 case, without issue.... It truly is a hard radio to beat for the, especially when it can be had under $1k (<$900 for a Field model), and it's punching well above is weight class....

Another great video!! I love hearing you guys have the same problems hearing and transmitting that I have being fairly new to the hobby, itβs nice to know Iβm not alone in my small frustrations!!! Keep up the good work!!

ππRylie (the dog) lays in the ham shack when Chuck plays radio. She loves being around people. Not much of a watch dog!!! lol

100% on the borrowing of anything that belongs to someone else. I've borrowed radios, and can confirm that you should always be willing and able to replace it should something go wrong. That same philosophy should apply to anything borrowed. I've definitely borrowed a tool that then broke and so I ended up buying two. One to replace the one I broke and the other for myself, so that I don't need to borrow it again in the future.

Yellowstone is my favorite National Park, been there numerous times. Hopefully one day I'll have the opportunity to activate it.
-
The FT-710 was my first radio and is still my "best". Not necessarily "the most fun", but just a great all-arounder with a receiver that's hard to beat. If Yaesu had put a tuner and SWR sweep comparable to the Xiegu radios, it would be close to perfect for any situation where weight was not an issue. Of course, for more portable operations or travel, it's a bit of a chonk!
-
I also avoid declarying a Park-to-Park - particularly CW - when I call CQ POTA.
-
You're not using my radio hihi. Did you come in over bear tooth pass by chance? That's quite a trip for a RV. I'll never forget it.
-
I have a FT-710, nice radio. I hardly use the speaker, mostly work with headset. The early firmware was a bit 'off' early adopters we were beta testing for Yaesu, but it is mostly fixed now.
-
I have a friend that likes to spin all the knobs and change settings. Turned the squelch on a new to me old radio so that only strong signals came through. Mad? You bet!
-
The only reason you'd want the park numbers for a p2p is if one of you is at a n'fer and you're working to get your 10 QSO's, you can log the QSO as multiple QSO's, one for each park. So if you have two QSOs and they are each with someone that is a 5'fer, that would give you 10 QSOs and an activation.
-
It is a friend thing. Someone I don't know touches my stuff without me there or asking me first, is a big no bueno. I don't care if they can buy me a truck load of replacement radios, it's is a matter of principle. Friends do not need to ask.

The dog was there. What else do you want? I am sure he gave you permission! 73
