VN24 - 07-19-2022 - Kamen A2 / Germany - On Tuesday, July 19, at about 16:40 h, a serious traffic accident occurred on the A2 highway near the Kamen interchange (A2/A1). According to investigations, traffic was backed up on all three lanes in the eastbound direction of Hanover due to another accident that had occurred earlier just a few hundred meters beyond the Kamen interchange. However, a 69-year-old truck driver apparently did not recognize this situation in time. He collided with the truck of a 47-year-old man. Due to the force of the impact, the truck of the 47-year-old was pushed onto another tractor-trailer of a 49-year-old driver from Austria. The 69-year-old was trapped in his cab and had to be rescued by the fire department. The 47-year-old was slightly injured in the accident. The 69-year-old from the Netherlands was seriously injured and airlifted by rescue helicopter to an emergency hospital, where he later passed away.

Annotation:
The yellow helicopter visible several times in the background is a permanent art installation at the Kamen Cross, supported by six steel angels. It is the former original rescue helicopter type BO 105M, which was in service for decades and probably saved thousands of lives. As a landmark and memorial, it is intended to call for caution and prudence in traffic, as well as to remind people of the sometimes difficult and oppressive work of rescue workers.

    I'm an international Euro trucker here in Germany.. I hate this truckers who drivers very close at my tail not distancing enough an accident like this with proper distance can be avoided..

    Ein eingeschalteter Bremsassistent hätte diesen Unfall evtl. verhindern können. Leider werden diese deaktiviert, weil die LKW regelmäßig von PKW geschnitten werden, welche nach dem Überholen zu früh einscheren. Man benötigt scheinbar zusätzlich zum Bremsassistenten für LKW, einen Überholassistenten für PKW, welcher das einscheren des KFZ erst nach ausreichend Abstand zum LKW zulässt.

    Schade, das der Fahrer am Ende seines Berufslebens auf so schreckliche weise sein Leben verlor. Da sieht man wieder, das viele LKW Fahrer den ernst der Lage immer noch nicht begriffen haben und so wenig auf die Abstände achten. Das sehe ich auch jedes mal auf der BAB, wenn ich da unterwegs bin.

    This is the reason why cab-overs are not popular in Canada / U.S. because they are already flat as is. There's nowhere to go for the driver but getting crushed.

    The thing about a cabover if you're involved in an accident is the very fact that you are going to be the first one there and that is not a good thing! Say, does anyone know if the Lee-Hi truck stop is still open in Virginny?

    Saw lots of these type accidents during my military tour in Germany. A2 is a scary area between Hannover where I often visited friends who live there.

    Als Mahnmal a der A2 könnte man die schweren Unfälle entlang der Autobahn Tapezieren,ändern würde das nichts..Ruhe in frieden Kollege…!!!!

    Jeder Lkw fahrer der bei einem Unfall ums leben kommt ist leider immer zu viel mein tieftes Mitgefühl für alle Hinterbliebene Freunde Kollegen Verwandte es erschüttert mich immer wieder 😢😢😢😢😢😢
