The wing pivot on an F-14 is made of titanium and is approx. an inch thick. This pivot “tang” is placed between an upper and lower titanium ‘clevis’, one on each end of the center titanium wing box, of similar thickness with a bearing. Just thought it interesting while considering chopstick precision. It is amazing that I got to see he moon landing when I was 12 years old, saw the first deep space and planetary probes, worked on the space shuttle program, and now can watch the next phase of progress off planet taking place.

Every time I see a booster land, I get just as excited watching as the first time. Your right. Never gets old

Of course booster capture can work. The key item is that the booster can Hoover, making the falcons zero velocity at zero height unnecessary, as the booster can assist with its capture. Much easier, just be strong enough

Starship catching. My suggestion is, would it be a good idea to pick up the starship loaded with the landing fuels lifted to the tower's maximum height? Then start the landing engines while held by the arms, then when the hover has stabilised, release the arms, hover around a little and recatch with the arms and recovery?

So the success of the laser based communication tests imho proves that there's a huge hole in the Fermi Paradox idea concerning the lack of extraterrestrial radio signals detected. If laser transmission of data turns out to be the most efficient method of communicating it could eventually lead to everything transitioning to lasers (just as SpaceX is doing with their Starlink satellite communication) which could eventually leading to our civilization going "radio silent". A sufficiently advanced civilization would likely be using far more advanced technology and not be emitting any radio signals at all for us to detect, especially if they are themselves worried about being detected (imo a SMART survival choice ;?).

That YF-100 engine is a derivative of rd-120 and it still took them >25 YEARS to develop! And people complain about Starship timelines 😂

Pictures of the Starship heatshield test rig??? The only really new thing about Starship is the heatshield approach and yet after 4 years, the heat tiles ARE STILL falling off??? It is very simple, if the Starship is to achieve ITS MOST IMPORTANT GOAL, rapid reusability, then ALL of the heat shield has to STAY ATTACHED during launch and reentry!!! And yet, the last news I heard is that SpaceX is still trying to figure out a glue to use in attaching the heat tiles. If the heat shield cannot be made to work, Starship will need a major redesign OR rapid reuse will be off the table because the current Starship will need major repairs AFTER EVERY LAUNCH just like the Space Shuttle. If rapid reusability is off the table, refueling Starships in orbit is OFF THE TABLE with all that implies. During the past 4 years, I have seen many pictures of SpaceX's engine testing, but NO pictures of their rig for testing heat shield implementations. Does SpaceX have one? If so, I'd like to see some pictures and understand what kind of testing they are doing and how often. OBVIOUSLY, the testing SpaceX has done so far has been INSUFFICIENT because during EVERY launch of the Starship upper stage or complete rocket, we see heat tiles falling off during launch, let alone during reentry. Since SpaceX does employ good engineers, my conclusion is that it is very possible that current materials DO NOT PERMIT the design and implementation of a heat shield that can support rapid reusability. If this is the case, and if NASA knows this, then a whole bunch of NASA administrators who buy into SpaceX's plans the depend on refueling in orbit need to be investigated for criminal stupidity, if not outright corruption.
