WINNING IRONMAN 70.3 FLORIDA - race weekend and recap (+ a DNF)

Published 2021-04-21
Miguel Mattox won the age-group race at Ironman 70.3 Florida, was 15th overall male + 3rd overall US athlete, and earned his pro card and a spot at Ironman 70.3 World Championships in St. George, Utah. Jenna had a different kind of day on the course.

Last weekend, we raced at Ironman 70.3 FL in Haines City. It was hot, humid, and at times, downright horrible. Follow along for an action-packed weekend filled with COVID-safe travel, race prep, and suboptimal racing conditions for two Northern Californian triathletes with very different race outcomes. The thrill of victory, and the agony of defeat.

Lots of lessons were learned during the race, and after 18 months of no racing, we’re excited to have our first race of the season under our belts.

Special shoutout goes to Conrad and Alex Goeringer for the amazing footage and colorful race commentary throughout the eventful day. Couldn’t have done it without you.

ABOUT US
We’re Jenna and Miguel–

With humble roots as college swimmers and academics, we’ve worked hard to become two of the country’s leading age-group triathletes, and are now on a mission to become professional athletes and content gurus. We swim-bike-run together, eat together, sleep together, do actual work next to each other, and make videos together for our own enjoyment and (someone’s?) education.

Throughout our documented journey, watch how a couple of ambitious 20-something-year-olds work towards their ultimate life goals in a disciplined yet untraditional, not-so-serious manner.

I am not in your league, but have completed over 20 70.3 triathlons and 5 full Ironmans and I coach as well. You are both so inspiring. Congrats Miguel on an amazing race. You put out your goal and executed. Awesome. Thank you for taking us along on the journey.

“Finish then vomit” 🤣 a conversation I’ve had in my head many times. Amazing video of pain sometimes equalling a great reward and sometimes not. Thanks for sharing your journey

This was a great piece of content. I was totally sucked in and couldn't take my eyes off the screen. So excited to see more from you both! Congrats to both of you on a race well done. Jenna, I have been there with dropping out of a race. Definitely doesn't make you a quitter. Sometimes you just have to listen to your body. Don't let it discourage you or knock your confidence! You can win the next one 🙂
  • Idk how I missed this video. Always my favorites. I know it was a tough day for you Jenna, but you always inspire us. Congrats on the awesome win Miguel
  • @PapaPineapples
We saw you guys at the beginning, before the race, great job!
  • @mojuy11
Just found you guys as I prepare for my 1st 140.6 in October in Indiana. Love you guys and your relationship, the most fun and down to earth tri athletes out there
  • Another great video, always a pleasure to watch these! A big congrats to Miguel, 14 seconds in front of 2nd place?! Very tight race and great to see coach race to keep up! Also a big congrats to Jenna, a DNF is always difficult to accept, especially for highly motivated athletes like yourself. Seems to me that the heat and humidity got the better of you that day.... I truly hope that your next race you can go all out and take revenge. Whatever happens, I am here to follow along that journey. Again, congratulations to both of you, another lovely video from 2 awesome people, keep it up!
  • @unknowuserable
Congrats Miguel! Awesome race Jenna! I was there too. I’m 40 and I did 5h1m on my first Ironman. It was HOT and HUMID. The run felt bad...I really feel you Jenna...hard to breath...hydration was key... See you guys at the World Championship! I’m stroked I qualified too!
