Inspired by the legend of Hanuman, an icon embodying strength and courage, Monkey Man stars Patel as Kid, an anonymous young man who ekes out a meager living in an underground fight club where, night after night, wearing a gorilla mask, he is beaten bloody by more popular fighters for cash.
After years of suppressed rage, Kid discovers a way to infiltrate the enclave of the city’s sinister elite. As his childhood trauma boils over, his mysteriously scarred hands unleash an explosive campaign of retribution to settle the score with the men who took everything from him.
Packed with thrilling and spectacular fight and chase scenes, Monkey Man is directed by Dev Patel from his original story and his screenplay with Paul Angunawela and John Collee (Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World).
The film’s international cast includes Sharlto Copley (District 9), Sobhita Dhulipala (Made in Heaven), Pitobash (Million Dollar Arm), Vipin Sharma (Hotel Mumbai), Ashwini Kalsekar (Ek Tha Hero), Adithi Kalkunte (Hotel Mumbai), Sikandar Kher (Aarya) and Makarand Deshpande (RRR).

Hollywood never cast Dev as an action hero, so Dev decides to make his own action movie and star himself. Definitely marking my calendar for this thrill ride.

I'm so glad Dev Patel put this labor of love together. Finally, Patel gets to be the center of attraction in an action movie. If Hollywood's too stupid or biased to see what we need, then it's up to the actors to create their own script. Can't wait for this.

This movie was incredible. The pacing for a unique and novel (for Hollywood) movie like this is extremely difficult and Dev Patel absolutely nailed it. He's an inspiration.

For this to be Dev Patel's directorial debut is insane. Jordan Peele was smart for taking this from Netflix to Universal. It deserves to be seen in the theaters.

The editing in this advertisement is masterclass. Told me everything I need to know about the film before watching, focused on the setting and style instead of plot, and the timing between cuts incredible. Goosebumps at 0:48. Perfect trailer for the film that may have it all.

I watched the movie, I rewatched both trailers... for this movie.... the trailer editor deserves an Oscar... there actually should be an award of some kind, because i would gladly rewatch these trailers 10000 times before watching the movie again

Dev Patel has come a long way from Skins. Never knew he’d be this big, but since Slumdog Millionaire he’s grown from actor now to director and screenwriter. Good for him and he continues to impress

I’m not one to comment on movies but this is an exception. This movie got me through a wave of emotions all thanks to Dev Patel. Really hats off to him for pulling this off. Absolutely proud of him! I can see him going far. He really deserves more recognition in Hollywood. He has such a good range. He really pulls you into the character in such a beautiful way. Literally had goosebumps watching this!

Back from the theatre, this movie is a gem for which I have no words 💯💯Dev Patel said the story took years in making and you will see it when you watch it in theatres. Although the trailer is amazing, I am glad I didn’t watch the trailer earlier 😎
