ATM 8: Ep 49 - My Reactor Exploded so I rebuilt it! Twice!

Published 2023-11-10
This is the longest video I've ever made!

Anti-matter from Mekanism is no joke when it comes to the work required to get it but get it we shall! In this episode we go from a failed reactor all the way to an SPS machine making us the antimatter we need for finishing this mod pack!

During this process it became very obvious that I need more power too... lots still to do in this world but we're one step closer now!

Also... if you made it through this whole video.... I appreciate you!

Hope you all enjoy and thank you for watching!

Hey folks! This is the longest episode I've ever put on youtube but it felt right to make sure we got the antimatter done! I don't blame you if you don't make it through the whole thing in one sitting but if you do make it through I appreciate you hanging through the slog! Can't believe I got there in the end!

We're proud of you Bottle! Your effort on this series is not being wasted! Thanks for all ❤
  • @dorenn
I love that you don’t leave an episode unfinished no matter how long it takes
  • @PINPAL
Sodium cooling your first Mekanism reactor was a bold move haha, normally it's something you only do when your very familiar with Mekanism as you need so many more things to deal with it.

Good Job. Any kind of advanced mechanism mod stuff is mind numbing.
  • The effort you put into this series is inspiring and amazing! Although there have been some mishaps along the way and countless things to figure out one after another, we love the content you put out and continuously await new videos. We're proud of you and how much you are willing to figure out to make sure you complete this mod and get to the ATM star we've all been awaiting to see! You got this! :)

I know you said at the start this isn’t a tutorial series, but I’m learning so much just from watching! I’m still fairly new to modded and it can be super overwhelming. It’s really helpful to hear you talk through what you’re doing

Super proud of you for sticking with it Boble! and for showing us all the fails and successes.

so proud of you bottle 😄 more episodes to cone from this series ☺️ really enjoyed this episode,
  • For your power usage, you could temporarily just right click the pipes pumping polonium into your SPS to make it redstone powered and then just click the lever whenever you want to put polonium into your SPS. This means it won’t use large amounts of power just to turn a little polonium to antimatter so you’ll overall use WAY less power. If you want to increase your power production, the best approaches are either to carry on in mekanism turbines and try and make it more efficient with more vents and turbine rotors or use a bigger reactors turbine since they can be many times more efficient in steam usage and give a lot more power. Note that with the bigger reactors approach, you’ll need a lot of unobtainium blocks (my turbine uses ~14k blocks of unobtainium but produces 200mfe/t for almost none of the steam I am generating. My mekanism one used WAY more and the max turbine could only produce 40mfe/t Overall, you’re doing well. When I was doing mekanism for the first time, I had no idea about the eternal water block so you can imagine how many explosions I went through 😅

I'm proud of you Bottle! Have been binge watching this series while bed ridden with the pandiflu. Ty for the awesome content! 🐱

I'm sure it's not for everyone, but I love the longer episodes! Great job :D

Thanks for yet another entertaining, if occasionally painful episode! ❤ A word on the SPS: The SPS is intentionally made to guzzle up as much energy as you give it, no matter how much it actually needs. It really only needs 400MFE per 1000mB of polonium (-> not per tick!), though, so a measly 400000 FE per mB of polonium you feed it. You can gauge your how much polonium/t you're generating by checking the processing rate in the SPS UI while running at max power and multiplying that by 1000 (it shows how much antimatter it produces, not how much polonium it processes). So instead of setting the Flux Points on the SPS to bypass their limit, you can set their limit to match your polonium production. (That space in the Flux Point's UI that usually reads 800000 is a text input - if you click into it, you can input any rate you want) And on a different note, mekanism has a tool called "Gauge dropper", which can take left-over liquid/gas stuff out of machines. Like lithium out of a crystallizer or something. You may need to consult the mekanism wiki on how to use it, though, because I can never remember. 😇 liivyaLURK liivyaTail 😇

Bottle, I dunno if you’ve been told this today but, you’ve done good kid, I’m proud of you. Ty for this series bottle, it’s been a trip.
  • You can control the power output by using mekanism cables. Each ultimate cable can handle about 3m, so if you're only producing 10m, use 3 ultimate cables (and maybe some lower quality ones to get the exact amount) to use exactly or less than that. Each additional cable will added another 3m, etc. The same principle applies to all other mekanism cables/pipes/tubes. And if you got this far, might as well make the fusion reactor. It's super cheap and massive energy compared to everything else. Especially since you're trying to speedrun through the antimatter, the last thing you want is to spend more resources and time on the extreme reactors for only a fraction of what the fusion does. It's also more in line with generic power reactors that it can never blow up. You would need to invest in a boiler/turbine setup though to get better efficiency out of it. You can also just ignore that and just produce max power with chunks full of machines dedicated to just processing it's fuel, which also happens to be pretty simple.
  • I’m happy to hear you’ll go back to vanilla! Really enjoying this series but I’ve missed your builds :D
  • @arixie6195
I’m super impressed about this! Very well done 💪💪

Just found you through the algorithm with this vid. Really enjoyed this, going to go back to catch up now!!
