It’s kinda scary how Mr.Beat made this video EXACTLY one year before Hamas attacked
  • As an Egyptian, I would like to thank you for using the historically accurate flags of my country, not everyone can get these details right.
  • @InvaderWeezle
You know a conflict is difficult when you have to go through basically the entirety of world history just to explain the backstory
  • You know you did something right when both Israelis and Palestinians are saying you did a good job on this video.
  • @oof4623
Me: "Damn. This video was posted prior to the attack on October 7th, 2023, I wonder what day it was uploaded..." SEES UPLOAD DATE OF OCTOBER 7TH... 2022
  • @robo567
of course this video gets recommended to me now of all times

"Once you get out of Tel Aviv it gets much cheaper in israel" Let's put that into perspective Mr. Beat. The prices in a small town in the north are equivalent to prices in London for example. It's just that Tel Aviv is sooo ridiculously expensive that this difference in prices (going down to London level expensive) is felt.

Just a few corrections, the Jews never willingly left due to Babylonian and Roman invasion, they were captured and forced into exile against their will. Also Romans called it palestina based on the small part of Israel where the Phillistines (Aegean Greeks) resided, land of Phillistines. The Romans renamed it as a disgrace to the Jews and to insult them further after destroying Jerusalem.
  • Excellent analysis overall. One point to add was the effects of 1973 Yom Kippur War with Syria and Egypt. Israel was caught flat-footed, lost territory early in the war, and suffered heavy casualties. And although Israel managed to win the war, Egypt gained the necessary leverage to bargain for the return of the Sinai peninsula during the 1978 Camp David Accords.

Watching this a year later just to see how its aged... Love you Matt
  • Mr. Beat was a history teacher at the middle school i attended. Pleasantly surprised he found his way to my recommended!

12:34 You left out one crucial detail. The Arabs rejected this division of land and revolted because that division left a lot of Arabs on the wrong side of that map, automatically losing their homes to Jewish settlers.

Excellent video, Mr. Beat; Just a small correction: Israel doesn't "militarily" occupy the Golan, it just occupies it. A military occupation would be like in the West Bank, where military law is set in place, rather than civil law. This difference is because, unlike the West Bank, Israel annexed the Golan. This annexation wasn't recognized at all by other countries, however because of the annexation, citizenship was given and civil law takes place there like with the rest of israel
  • I am from Indiana & my father was of Irish ancestry. I couldn't help but notice that when you combine Republic of Ireland & Northern Ireland they have almost exactly the same area and population as Indiana. Because of this a video comparing them would be interesting
  • 5:13 The name Palestine comes from the Philistines - a tribe from the "sea people", probably from Mycenaean Greece who invaded and setteled at the southern coast of Cannan, during the bronze age collapse. The name most likely comes from the etymological root "Invader" in Cannanite languages. The most famous if them all is Goliath, from the story of "David and Goliath". The Greeks begun to refer to the entire area of Cannan after them - Philistia. And the name survived also after the extinction of the Philistines at the 8 century BC when the Assyrian empire conqured it. After one of the Jewish revolts against Rome - as Mr. Beat mentioned, the area was renamed by it's Latinized Greek name - Palestina. (Like almost every other thing the Romans did with Greek culture...)
  • A straight comparison between Israel and Palestine couldn't possibly be fair. Israel has a chokehold on all aspects of Palestinian life. Also, most Israelis are blissfully unaware of the suffering their occupation is inflicting on the Palestinian populations in the West Bank and Gaza. They have their peace and don't give a damn about the Palestinians. I have read some accounts of Jews expressing sympathy for the Palestinians only to be reprimanded by their family and friends, who see this is a zero-sum game in which either the Jews survive or the Arabs but NOT both.
  • @fishyfishyfish0
19:51 "Today, things often are deceptively peaceful in Israel and Palestine." yeah, that aged REAL fast...
  • Thanks @Mr Beat, my kids know about the world and about history more than their teachers. School times could be even better if I had a professor like @Mr Beat. Hope that kids out there can find someone like you, @Mr Beat; to teach and give some fun. Thanks for all the videos 🎈
