Belgian Draft horse and 2 day old foal saved from almost being shipped to slaughter update - Ep.59

Published 2023-05-10
On April 15th, I came across a post on Facebook from Sexton Horse and Mule in Sneedsville, TN where we rescued Freya from. There was a mare that just dropped a foal not 24 hours before I saw the post and they are both scheduled to be shipped to slaughter on the next truck. We secured a home for these two precious lives and along with your support we saved them from being shipped to slaughter!

When we started this channel, Mark a retired Army veteran, reached out to me wanting to adopt one of our horses. Our horses that we have are special needs, most with medical conditions and are not available for adoption. I promised Mark I would help him find a pasture pal for his horse Calvin. Mark purchased 26 acres in southern Illinois and wants to help our cause by saving more of these horses from going to slaughter. Mark agreed to adopt both Mom and baby and provide the perfect life for these two with his horse, Calvin who will finally have a pasture pal.

Mark and Calvin were excited to welcome the mare and foul to their farm. This is an update on how they are doing after being saved. Our foundation arranged for the mare and foal to be picked up the next day on April 16th from the kill pen and they were transported 430 miles to Mark's farm. The following week we had a vet (Dr. Beasley) go to Mark's farm to give them both a complete check up. Sky and Daisy are doing well and we could not have saved these two without your support! We can't thank you enough!

If you are new to our channel we started the Big Hoof Foundation, a 501c3 non profit organization to save more of this lives from going to slaughter. I could not let a mom and not even 24 hour old baby be shipped to slaughter. They deserve a chance at life and for a happy home.

Please consider making a tax deductible donation to the Big Hoof Foundation to help us save more of these precious lives. We have a temporary page set up on the Fletcher Farms Amarillo website until we can complete the foundations website.

Thank you to everyone that has sent us gifts of Alfa Pro, we truly appreciate your support and can't thank you enough!

The one item WE always need is FEED! If you would like to send a gift/donation of feed (Alfa Pro, hay, etc) to the horses you can send that through our local feed store, HF & C Amarillo.

HF&C Amarillo has offered to help us with anyone wanting to send a gift/donation of Alfa-Pro to the horses. When you call, tell them you are sending a gift to Fletcher Farms Amarillo and they will add the gifts to our account. Alfa-Pro is $17.45 per bag. They do offer a discount if you purchase per pallet (40 - 50 pound bags) $16.95 per bag by the pallet. WE go through about 3-1/2 bags per day to feed all 13 horses (175 pounds per day). We also purchase square bales of coastal hay from HF&C. We use 2-1/2 bales per day to feed all the horses. Square bales of hay are $16.75 each.

Thank you to all of our subscribers and followers for your support, for your kindness and generosity! We are grateful for everything and don't know what we would do without you!

BECAUSE OF YOU I RESCUED A QUARTER HORSE LOOKING MARE FROM BOWIE LIVESTOCK. SHE IS 20 AND NEEDED A PLACE TO RETIRE.
  • @Sophiecjp
The nice thing is that the baby will never have to go through what hers parents did. She will not be worked almost to death. Thank you for saving these beautiful creatures.♥️
  • I live not far from the horse slaughter plant, here in Alberta. It is not a make believe place. There is also a gigantic farm, attached and owned by the same people , where they fatten the horses... thousands and thousands of the most beautiful quiet gentle horses youd ever imagine... You cant imagine it, until you see it for your own eyes. I had to deliver a super b of oats.. and told my boss id never ever go back there.... I have never gotten over it... seeing them all... knowing the fate that awaited them... no horse deserves that. Keep saving the horses... these horrid places are very real. Thank you for saving these two. Beautiful xx
  • Awwww...that's beautiful. Thank You Fletcher farms and Thank You Mark for offering a loving home to this gorgeous mother and her baby ❤

Prayers from Nebraska for Wilson. ❤ Some folks can't handle the ugly truth. I believe we must stop sending horses to slaughter.

Prayers for Wilson! 🙏 I can’t believe foals so young are in the slaughter pipeline, sad! Glad they’re with you
  • I cannot believe that someone would kill these beautiful creatures its just beyond words so glad you saved them x

The mom looks like she settled into the farm right away. Her baby sensed that and relaxed as well. Watching the little foal discover dogs was endearing. Mama was standing by, just keeping watch. Saving these beautiful horses is so important, and I do give thanks for your compassionate mission.
  • We pulled two Belgians from Sexton's four years ago. Thank you for saving this mama and baby.

Thoughts and prayers 🙏 to all. Thank you to everyone who had a hand in saving this beautiful Mama and baby 🐴. And for anyone that's unaware, hundreds of horses are sent to slaughter DAILY!! It's absolutely mind blowing how many beautiful horses are brutally killed 🥺. Blessings to all 🙌 Jennifer

Disturbing to say the least! Who in their right mind could destroy the baby or the mare! Sickening. Thank Mark and Mark’s farm for rescuing them!!! ❤️❤️❤️

Just the thought of being born in a kill pen took my breath away. Does the heart good to know they are safe. At full weight, the mother will be gorgeous. Love the part of the video where Mom is watching over her baby’s encounter with Mark and the dogs. 😆Thanks for the update. ❤
  • @coffeecup3177
Thanks Mark for sending the footage. Hopefully Calvin is as happy as we are.
  • Julie, you, the trucking guy and Mark are SUCH AMAZING ANGELS!! Thank you for what you do and are doing. This is a sad, sad tale with such a wonderful ending, thanks to you. To think of other mares who give birth in kill pens and their babies also go to slaughter, just floors me. I feel desperate and beyond donating, liking and sharing - I feel I am but a drop in the ocean. Thank you again x

Thank You for the update on Sky and Daisy! It was a pleasure to be able to help rescue them! Keep up the great work!!! The current wild horse round-ups cause me great grief. Im looking to buy a small farm so that I too can rescue those horses/donkeys that are doomed by this system!
  • That was really lovely. Please continue to post updates on Sky and Daisy. They have a place in my heart.
  • @marycoker99
