Thank you very much for watching. About 10 years ago, I heard Itzhak Perlman's Chaconne and was fascinated by it. The original piece is a solo violin piece, so there are quite a few parts that would be reckless to play on the koto, but I wanted to play it myself, so I managed to record it. It is a very famous and wonderful piece, and I am sure there are many interpretations. It is a piece that I would like to continue performing throughout my life.
  • I cannot imagine how deeply you need to know the music to be able to retune the instrument on the fly. Amazing.
  • Sublime! Bach transcends all boundaries, your artistry commands the utmost respect, Bravo!
  • Many thanks to the cameraman for cutting out of the scene, for most of the time, the most interesting things to see. What a genius.

Lovingly performed and faithful to the original. Your technical mastery of the koto is on full display. I really enjoyed the performance. Thank you for sharing this video.
  • I felt that the Chaconne was fully adapted to the koto and to your playing. Bach would be proud of how well you brought out the core intent of the composition!

Bach sits in heaven listening to you nodding and smiling to you!

She is amazing! Wow!😮 Moving the bridges while playing would be so hard to master.
  • This work by Bach is just one of the highest points of human achievement, and this performance shows that. Humans do terrible things, but a few of them can also do things like this, this woman is a marvel. This is just unreal virtuosity and musicianship.

All you need is Bach, artists in love with music, complex instruments they play and ears to listen. Your soul connects with its homeland and a new life begins ❤

I bet Bach would absolutely have loved this, so interesting hearing what the instrument does for example in the broken chords and bringing out the harmonies so beautifully.
  • Bach wrote music - he left it to us to play it - even on instruments he never knew about (and even those we still haven't invented...)

This is so impressive on many levels. To interpret, you have to know the piece intimately, and there is a lot to remember, lots. And the sheer physicality of it. That instrument seems designed to wreck a person's back, yet she danced around it with lightness and focus. Thank you for your work and dedication. And thank you for sharing with us.

The runs of 16th notes are handled beautifully. Masterfully nuanced playing. Changing key on the fly by depressing the string of shifting the bridge is also a wonderful demonstration of proficiency of the musician.

Unbelievable beautiful - she is not only able to play this complicated piece - she can also tune the instrument while performing, just beyond this world. I have heard this chaconne being played by many artists and also on unimaginable instruments and all of them where up to this monumental piece of music. I got to know this chaconne not before I was in my 80s - I am thankful that I didn't die before that happened,
  • Amazing, one is transported to a recollection of Lute and Harpsichord timbres... yet this is unique. Your rubato and dynamic sense are superb, even invoking the ponticello and tasto of the original violin manuscript (BWV 1004). Your roaming intonation and tuning changes/string depressions are a sight to behold! Bravo Maestra.

Applause! I am surprised that it is possible to play Bach on the Koto. Kimura-san is truly a high master of her kind.
  • @Gabry2138
...a trip to God. Thanks to Johann Sebastian and to you for this great rendering..
