I Took a Last Minute Cruise on An Old Ship - Worth It?

When I saw a cruise advertised for $57 per night, I knew I had to give it a go.
My favourite Mia Tui bags! emmacruises.com/5-bags-i-bring-on-every-cruise-bes… 😇🥳

In reality, it did end up costing a little bit more than that but after months of being cold in England, I saw that this cruise was sailing from Greece and I decided to go for it.

I knew that there was no guarantee of good weather at this time of year, I didn’t know how I’d like cruising on such a small and old ship and I had no idea about the real reason that this cruise was so cheap. I wouldn’t find that out until I got on board, I also didn’t know at this point that we would leave some guests behind in one of the ports but there's nothing I could have done about that anyway.

We flew out from London to board the ship and after a quick taxi ride to the port it was time to embark. Our luggage was taken from the car to be delivered to our cabins later and after what could have only been around 5 minutes in the terminal we were ready to board the ship. It was the easiest embarkation ever, helped by the fact we’d already checked in online and I even watched the safety videos on the plane to save time.

The ship that we were boarding was the Celebrity Infinity, she was built in 2001 and is just under half the size of the current biggest cruise ship in the world. I assumed the small size meant there would be less entertainment options, maybe less food but I was sure that she had lots of refits since her launch.

  • I will say it again and again and again….Your format of video is the best. Im getting tired of bloggers with their cameras out and talking all the time walking around the ship, restaurants, casino, bars, etc…..

Pssst, I know Kusadasi is in Turkey, I said Greece in this video by mistake. My bad! 😆🥰

Friends don't tell friends that 2001 was 23 years ago
  • Just watched this video . Memories came rushing back. My late wife and I cruised on the Infinity back in 2002 when it was the largest and newest ship in the fleet. It was a 10 day cruise around Hawaii and repositioning to Canada. It was a wonderful cruise. The last for us. My wife passed away 2 months after we got home. I am still cruising. not as much now. Thank you so much for your videos, they are great. Thanks again for the memories

Watching Emma's eyes light up when talking about cookies is adorable.

Just to be clear, the Celebrity Millennium class ships (Millennium, Infinity, Summit and Constellation) are great ships. And Celebrity doesn't let them run down or provide less in the way of quality. I would sail on any of them any time, and I was recently on the Ascent. They are a little different experience, but wonderful in their own way. Also, the smaller ships can go to ports that the larger ships can't go to. Glad you had a great time, Emma. I do want to point out that dresses aren't "required". I've been on eight Celebrity cruises and never took a dress or a skirt. I accessorize around a nice pair of black slacks.

"MELON-ee" I fell out of my chair laughing!!! Emma, you haven't lost your touch/humor.😅
  • This is my type of holiday , good budget , not too busy and sunshine in winter but not too hot . Great video Emma . 😊
  • I was a travel agent when this class of ship came out. My boss sailed on the maiden voyage. He called it a perfect cruise ship.
  • there is nothing wrong with older cruise ships that take fewer passengers .They can get into smaller ports ,dining is easier plus the ports do not become packed .Great video as always.
  • We've take several Celebrity cruises but always on Solstice-class ships. Interesting to see that the older class ships also offer the same Celebrity service. Best food afloat for us!

That original carpeting in the casino looks like it was designed to help you lose money quicker. All you need to do is accidentally drop a tenner on it while walking in and you would never be able to find it. 😁
  • Celebrity is one of our favorites because they're upscale without being posh and cookies are my favorite. Generally, the food quality is some of the best regardless of which venue you go to. We also very much like their staff.

Admittedly, I have never been on a cruise. That said, I thoroughly enjoy your videos, Emma and this is one of my favorites. I think that this is as big of a ship as I would care to sail on. I love the feeling of moving over the water on small boats. You lose that with floating cities. Also, whatever a ship has to offer that can't be appreciated in the available time in the duration of the cruise is superfluous. I get why some people love an abundance of choices, but give me a comfortable room, a reasonable selection of well-prepared foods, a bit of good entertainment, a comfortable deck chair, a bottle of Scotch... I think I would be happy. That indoor pool arrangement looks particularly nice, though it always seemed a bit illogical to climb into a boat to swim. 😅
  • Omg, my parents were on this exact cruise! I don’t think I saw them in your footage though, but I tried 😅.We also want together on Infinity last November. I was worried about it being an old ship but the crew and their attention to all the little things made it a very enjoyable experience!

I was also on a Greek islands cruise (+ Istanbul and Kotor) last week with Celestyal Journey, which is an even older and smaller ship (built 1994, max ~1200 passengers). With a small ship, we could visit more interesting islands like Chios and Kos, and crew members also got to know us better and even remember our favourite drinks and dishes!
  • The best cruise we have ever had was on Celebrity Constellation around the Caribbean. We sailed on small and large ships and always say the cruise on the Connie was the best. Could not fault the delicious food, staff, the ship, cabins or ports of call. The food on the ships that sail from Florida tends to be better, but that's personal choice. We love Celebrity.
  • @Fladydoc
Celebrity is the best, no matter how old the ship! The details, the people, the crew- the best.
  • @fedex1339
Love the small ships hate to see them disappear.
