“Time beat him. Time you know…takes everybody out, it’s undefeated.” With the passing of Carl Weathers, this scene hits harder. 💔 RIP

"How do you know all of this?" "How do you think? I watched Rocky 1 thru 4"

“How’d you beat him?” “Time beat him, y’know? Time takes everybody. It’s undefeated.”

One thing I liked about the scene is how Rocky never says that he "beat" Apollo, he just says time caught up with his friend. I think that's really gracious, but it also shows how much he loved and respected Apollo. And for the record, I always thought Apollo won their private fight, which sets up a much stronger reason why Apollo would jump at the chance to fight Drago in the fourth film.

who else came back here knowing Carl Weathers has passed :( RIP LEGEND

The way he says; ”How’d you hear about that?” … was perfectly spoken. Right pitch, tone and delivery. Legit.

"you gave a nice speech though" and then Rocky moves left to right trying to avoid the unavoidable punch of regret. This whole scene is masterfully delivered.
  • I love that Sly makes the Rocky character so humble. That's one of the main things that I love about the character. After the first fight, he goes and asks Apollo did he give him his best. He doesn't take credit for beating Apollo. And humbly admits to losing the third fight behind closed doors. He could have easily lied or said it was a tie.
  • Creed is the perfect example of how to continue on with a film franchise. It honors the original while organically building its own identity.

Time takes everybody. Its undefeated. RIP Carl Weathers.

“Time beat him.” That line hits so much harder now with recent events. RIP Carl. We’ll never forget you. You’re the best.

I like this scene. Adonis could have been aggressive towards Rocky, angered at him, but it's the other way around. Rocky is full of guilt and regret, while Adonis tells him he shouldn't. They didn't went the obvious route and I really love it. Makes you empathize with Rocky and makes Adonis immediately likeable.

I am just baffled that Stallone did not get the Oscar that year for this performance. It boggles the mind. You could actually make an argument that this is his finest hour as this character in all the movies. He was truly phenomenal.

It still blows my mind that Sylvester Stallone was (deservedly) nominated for Best Supporting Actor for playing Rocky Balboa, four decades after first playing the character. It sounds like something that should have been in Back to the Future II.

It makes sense that Apollo won the third fight. Even though he was older he was still the more skilled fighter. Rocky's big advantage was having the stamina and willpower to absorb all of the hits and keep going. In a friendly sparring match there would be no reason to take it that far.
  • "Maybe he would have went out like a fighter. Maybe, he did exactly what he wanted." "...I think he would rather be here---talking with you." That was real. Rocky knew Apollo better than anyone else. That's brotherhood right there.
  • Rocky: “ how do you know all this” Adonis: “I saw it in a movie”
  • @Comictalent
RIP Carl Weathers - this scene was already among the best in the series. Now it has even more resonance.
