If you have a party of six before fighting professor sycamore you can choose your starter later and you can shiny hunt it much faster (heard this from a friend so if its not true pls blame him not me)

Fyi. U dont have to fight the professor every time u reset. Ik its technically against the rules but if u have a full party of pokemon it gives u the option to say no. So u can come back and just pick a starter. I did this in my own shinies only pokemon x run a year ago and ended up getting a shiny charmander in two days or so.
