A very wet evening watching badgers in Staffordshire - 5th October 2011

Published 2024-07-02
This video shows what was a very wet evening watching badgers on a lawn in Staffordshire. Filmed on the 5th October 2011.
This evening we are back at our secret location in Staffordshire. We are about a hundred metres from the sett, watching badgers in the Autumn. There are some fallen leaves on the ground and there is a strong breeze, which can make the badgers a little more nervous.
The badgers have been fed plain peanuts, plain brazil nuts and a few seedless grapes.
Grapes can cause serious harm to some dogs, but dogs don’t come here and the badgers eat all the grapes anyway.
At first, just one badger comes on to the lawn to look for the food.
The badger continues eating despite the rain and the wind. You can hear it chomping all the nuts – it is such a noisy eater.
Soon there are a couple of badgers feeding – notice how they sometimes lie down on their bellies to eat.
Notice too that the dominant animal sometimes shoulder barges the other to get to the best food.
Eventually, the rain becomes absolutely torrential, so I decide that it is too wet for me and all my camera equipment. I head back to the car leaving the badgers to do their thing.
