Will Smith stars in this moving tale inspired by the true story of Chris Gardner, a San Francisco salesman struggling to build a future for himself and his 5-year-old son Christopher (Jaden Smith). When his girlfriend Linda (Thandie Newton) walks out, Chris is left to raise Christopher (Jaden Smith) on his own. Chris' determination finally pays off when he lands an unpaid internship in a brutally competitive stockbroker-training program, where only one in twenty interns will make the cut. But without a salary, Chris and his son are evicted from their apartment and are forced to sleep on the streets, in homeless shelters and even behind the locked doors of a metro station bathroom. With self-confidence and the love and trust of his son, Chris Gardner rises above his obstacles to become a Wall Street legend.

  • Watching that as a 15 year old I didn't understand, now I'm in my 30s and I'm bawling my eyes out because I know how much being hired really means.

This is, by far, Will Smith's greatest acting role. The range of emotions he goes through is impressive. The fact it is based on a true story is also amazing.

I just got word that a company I interviewed with recently is sending me an offer letter and I came here to watch this scene because this is exactly how I’m feeling right now.

The actors that played the bosses and leaders were amazing in their roles. You can literally see the silent glimpse of joy and appreciation on their faces and on the smiles, while trying to stay professional as they give Chris the good news.

Every day, thousands of Americans go through that same range of emotions. Fear of being told no, the relief of hearing the good news, the elation that everything will work out now... Whether it's a new job, marrying the love of your life, welcoming a new child into the world, finding out you've done something others considered impossible.... it's a great feeling, and this mans story should be held up as an example: Yes, life is tough, it will beat you down at times, but if you can stick it out, push through the tough times... your perseverance will pay off.

The bathroom scene gets me.. As a father it gets me straight to the heart! A real father does everything to keep their kids safe.

Will smith is actually an outstanding actor. One of the best of our lifetime. Its a shame that we had to see his personal life and everything manifest the way it did a year ago. Hopefully I can go back to just appreciating his acting one day. His personal life is none of my business.

We need to start telling the stories of men and women like Christopher Gardner a whole lot more, our youth are so hopelessly lost and have fallen into darkness.

  • Been struggling to find work after losing my job several months back. Right now I feel super down about it I watched this movie again after years since it’s what was on. Honestly my faith in my self has been restored and this movie was exactly what I needed. I’ll keep trying because I’ll get there one day!

I just completed my first week of work at my new job yesterday. I know exactly how this feels. I get my first week’s pay the end of next week. 👏👏👏

To this day, still the one scene of any movie that makes me cry like I've never cried before. It's so damn sad in the best possible way. I love it. That level of exhaustion, that feeling of finally winning. To being able to do all the things you ever thought. That has to be so euphoric. Good for him. An amazing portrayal of what a man, and anyone for that matter, can go through.

The fact he didn't win an Oscar for this role is criminal
