Hi Scott - sorry to be so slow in replying to your question.  Refer to our #6 video.... Major Tree Trimming - Final Rigging - Final Cut - OM&T #6 .  i purchased a $30 bow and arrow from a local sporting goods store.  Its actually perfect for this and would make a nice target shoot set.  It came with two arrows, but we got another two just in case we lost the originals.  When the tree was full, at the beginning of the project, making arrow shots exactly where you wanted them was quite difficult.  Adding to that is that sometimes the arrow went right where I wanted it but then the arrow wasn't heavy enough to fall to the ground pulling the string down to where we could reach it.  We made a lot of shot attempts.  On all shots we considered where the arrow would go if it let loose of the string and aimed so that the arc was high and most shots were toward the inner portions of our backyard.  You also get a feel on how far to draw back so the arrow stayed within acceptable landing zones.  And we did all our shots when kids in other yards were at school.  And we had a vacancy in the house to our west, but our arrows were never more  that a 16 foot pull reach beyond that fence.  In January 2015, I worked on some more trees.  I recalled the frustration of the arrow not having good weight to fall to the ground.  So I slipped about 4 1/4 metal nuts over the tip of the arrow and wrapped them on nice, tight, and smooth with black electrical tape.  The arrow worked much much better.  Even the aim remained truer as the string was pulled into the air behind the arrow.  You will also see in all our videos for this project that we not only had to feed the rope chain saw into the right crotch, but for each limb we rigged up control ropes so that branches fell in the direction and to the places we wanted them to.
  • Nice demonstration of rope chain saw. I have 70 foot pine tree I need to cut down and I like to start from the top and cut down few feet at a time with rope chain saw.

What a great creation. Nice work. That is a real workout. My daughter helped me out on a couple of branches. The saw makes a distinctive sound doesn't it? Very good use of control ropes. I liked the slo mo replays and annotations.

Can you recommend a great rope saw! Yours seems to work well.

Don’t try this chain gets stuck, rope is too thin. A hand pulled Chain as a saw is not right fir this application. Bought one of theses on amazon and it was cheap crap Being anywhere near falling branches is far too dangerous. They bounce.
