During Queen Elizabeth II's 70-year reign, there were no incoming state visits at the same time as a general election.
A Japanese foreign ministry official said the emperor and empress's visit would not be a political one and it was hoped it would forge "friendly relations across generations" between Japan's imperial family and the British royal family

This is wonderful to see, love the pageantry of my home. This ex-pat living in FL, USA., is feeling proud and homesick today watching this warm greeting, and State visit from the Japanese Emperor and Empress! The Japanese Emperor's speech is very interesting, and I am really impressed with his enthusiasm for modern innovations in medicine and other scientific areas of advancement. I'll bet the chef is worried about the food being served properly and making sure the chaffing dishes are working!
