The song "Proud Mary" was written by John Fogerty of American roots rock band Creedence Clearwater Revival. The song is about an old steamboat on the Mississippi River -- typically "down home" lyrics like so many songs by CCR. Over the years the song has been covered by various artists. The version of Ike & Tina Turner is something special, because it contains a spoken word intro by Tina Turner as a slow opening -- only to become a typically wild and energetic Ike & Tina Turner tune. Also much has been said about the lyrics of the song. The original line "... pumped a lot of pain in New Orleans" by Fogerty was interpreted by Tina Turner as "... pumped a lot of 'tane ..." -- referring to "octane". A famous example for a type of "mondegreen" in song lyrics ...

Tina Turner was an icon, survivor, and all-around badass. Rest in Peace to a Queen who earned her title. There will never be another woman like her. She inspired so many during her lifetime and will forever be remembered.

Janice Joplin said it best in one of her last interviews. "Ike and Tina Turner is the act, but TINA is the show.".

I must say, Angela Bassett is one hell of an actress to have reenacted this performance down to Tina's same facial movements.
  • TINA TURNER LEGEND!! I can't get over how physically hard she worked: singing like she does and that intense dancing. Rest easy, you deserve it.

Can we just stop and talk about how bomb those backup singers were?

This loss was a rough one. I can't even imagine a world without Tina Turner in it. She was like a female James Brown, the way she worked that stage. The Queen of Rock 'n Roll. You will be missed, Rest easy, Tina. πŸ’™πŸ™πŸ’ƒ

So much energy, and so much vitality over so many decades of music. She was a tornado that never looked like it would ever blow out, sadly, real life always intervenes, and her mortality has finally assured her enduring immortality. R.I.P. Tina; you've done enough to ensure you'll never be forgotten.
