I know that ship must have gave the British nightmares.

Not any type of oak would withstand a cannonball. Old Ironsides used Southern Live Oak (Quercus Virginiana), a type not available anywhere else. Southern Live Oak is still used today for wooden boat building.

ahhh yes the great War that kept us Canadians from becoming another American state

And did the USS Constitution actually fight a ship of equal or more guns? NO it did not Both the British Frigates were heavily out-gunned. However the HMS Endymion a 38 gun frigate caught and beat the USS President 50+ Guns and the HMS Shannon took on and beat the USS Chesapeake another of the 5 super frigates It was common practice for the R/N to have a go at anything e.g The sloop HMS Speedy that took on and beat the Spanish frigate El Gamo.

So was born a country that has been at war ever since. A country that has committed genocide to its native population. That treated blacks as slaves up until the 1960's a country that proclaims freedom but offers its population anything but. Canada remained British and kept its British laws and sense of freedom to its people. Instead of gloating about a British defeat maybe the Americans should rue the day the British left. Would America be a better country? Is Canada a better place to live? Look forward to your comments.
