Brass rod end refinement (step 2 of 2)

Simple process but perfect results. 320 grit sand paper (from a turners pack) stuck in a groove using double sided tape, then the same block we used in the initial cut and step 1 of edge refinement gets used again.

Proving that all you need is a way to make the initial cut, a block of wood, a file, and some sandpaper to get within 1-2 thousandths of an inch on desired length with excellent results.

I own a power bench sander, high tension hack saws, machinist vises, etc., but I find this approach to be quick and effective without having to drag out more tools and fiddle with complicated setups.

If the rod is 1/8” or 3mm or less in diameter, so grab my wire cutters, hold a cup or close-ended tube over the length of rod about to be cut (so it does not fly up and mar the ceiling), file it near flush and then sand it perpendicular all with the aide of a scrap of wood with a 1/8” hole drilled through it (make sure that hole is a perpendicular to the bottom surface that will ride above the groove the sandpaper is in or the end will not come out 90 to the rod).
