It's rare to see a positive story about a witch dosing a whole town with drugs. πŸ’šπŸ’›πŸ’™

I hadn't seen this in over 40 years!! I remember when they made it and invited the whole town to come and eat pancakes!! What a nice surprise to watch it again and see my father, my grandparents, my aunt and uncle, and my best friend's mother from 1969!! What a joy!!

I remember seeing this while I was in the third grade as well as in an episode of THE CBS CHILDREN'S FILM FESTIVAL. πŸ˜ƒ Interesting to hear the voice of Burgess Meredith.
  • These late 60s/ early 70s films have the best jazz soundtracks and narration. πŸ’•

I remember seeing this in school when I was a child. For some reason it really left a good impression on me.
  • This is by far the best, cleanest version of this film on YouTube. Much appreciation for uploading it. I love the nostalgia this offers. The actress who plays the witch is a true professional! And the narration by Burgess Meredith aka Mick makes it even cooler.
  • Saw this in Catholic school, 1st grade. Wonderful introduction to psychedelics and being a single mom.
  • I remember watching this in my elementary third grade classroom, around 1978. I always thought the title was "The Witch's Pancakes". I searched for so long to see it. So glad to finally see it again after nearly 44 years! Can not believe I remember so much of it! So glad to have it posted on Youtube. Will perhaps show it to my 4th grade students! Great to relive the old days!

This and The Red Room Riddle were some of my fondest film reel memories from primary school. I can still hear the crackle of the projector.

I have been looking for this for years. I thought I'd never be able to find it. Thank You Youtube! I have a vague memory of watching this in the late 1980s (possibly 1987 or 1988) in elementary school in a class in which the male teacher enjoyed showing old short films on a projector. Other than this I remember watching the short cartoon Riki Tiki Tavi. This one was so crazy and weird. It must have been in October for Halloween. I thought this was an anti drug short and had nothing to do with witches or comedy. Now that I see it again it's hilarious (could still be about drugs; it was from the sixties after all) the actress playing the witch is Hermione Gingold. What a blast from the past. And it's also interesting how so many commenting on here also remember watching this in their own grade school as children.

Thank you for uploading this - like many, I saw this in 70s grade school and not since. It was great to see it once again. The special effects after the boy and mom (and neighbors) ate these pancakes was probably the thing I most held with me (I’d forgotten about the witch, if that is possible).

β€œMy secret.” πŸ™„ Old hippy witch dosing the whole damn neighborhood!
  • What a wonderful little childrens film. it was good as it's short, but a longer version would've been lovely too. I'm here for Gingold, she was one of our favorites when I was a child, my Granny often mentioned her, tragic that she's largely forgotten now, but we remember.

Just today, my 50-year-old ass had a strange flashback. "Remember that weird movie they used to show us in elementary school on rainy days in the 70s? Something about magic pancakes with weird dots when people ate them?" One Google search later and here I am. Thank you for uploading this. Between this and "The Red Balloon"... man...
  • I have been looking for this and talking about trying to find this movie for forty years. Thank you for sharing and posting. What a treasure. Simple kindness like this is what our world should be. Be well and thank you again!

Every year in October we saw this all trough elementary school on the East Coast! Good times!

I too remember this from 70's elementary school. We also watched Electric Company starring Letterman cartoons, Spiderman, and a young Morgan Freeman. BTW - did anyone else watch a movie in class with an old Santa Claus looking guy, who made poor choices; one was bathing in a creek with bar soap? No, it wasn't Grizzly Adams. It was film on a reel made for schools.

WE used to watch this on rainy days when we could not have recess outside. It was one of about 3 movies St Pius X in Fairfield Ct had in it's library, the other was the animated version of The Selfish Giant, and I forget the 3rd...anyway, we never got tired of this, it never stopped being fun and cool.... and decades later I still ponder about inventing pancakes that make people happy...well without violating any current drug laws

80s kid here missing the magic of childhood. My heart needed this today. Thank you.

Haven't seen this since I was a child (kindergarten circa, 1970) and what a delight to revisit this short film and all of the memories that it brought back! I was laughing and smiling to myself,as I watched and thinking it's a good thing that an old comedian that smokes cigars and wears brightly colored sweaters didn't live in their attic. 😁 Lol It is a delightful little treasure of a movie and does make me so HAPPY to see it and smile, again. 😁 Can't wait to sit and watch it with my granddaughter. Thank you!
