Returning to Victorian London after a long exile, the unhinged barber Sweeney Todd seeks violent vengeance on the unscrupulous judge who separated him from his family, freedom… and sanity. Teaming with the Sweeney-smitten, pie-making Mrs. Lovett, Todd reopens his tonsorial parlor to lure the judge in… and then practice his murderous desires on the throats of Fleet Street's citizenry!

One of the hardest musical songs to sing ..the diction..phasing and timing.. her range from head voice.. to falsetto.. to full chest voice is incredible... a total professional. The great tony winning Patti Lupone

This is the best performance of "The Worst Pies in London" I've heard!! Patti LuPone is a true icon
  • I like how when she said 'a woman alone' she stared at him from head to toe
  • @Jackie-cw7qz
The way she says “mrs Mooney has a pie shop” always makes me laugh

I really preferred this look/energy over when she took it to Broadway - with the black bob and Gothic fashion.

ugh! that orchestra is so beautiful!
  • @ar_t_lo
She immediatly knew it was Benjamin, that's why she said she thought he was a ghost. Not because she hadn't had a customer for weeks.
  • I absolutely love George Hearn sitting there watching her in stunned silence, looking at her like, "What the actual fuck is this mad woman?" His face alone is enough to send me into a fit of giggles! 🤣 I also love the line, "And I'm telling you that pussycats is quick!" because it's Mrs. Lovett basically confessing that she has tried catching cats to bake into pies, but with no success. Everything about this song, and this scene is just brilliant! This is what you get when you have talented people bring Sondheim's words to life! (Take not Helena, Johnny and Tim! 😏)
  • I was at this performance, it was the San Francisco Symphony 2001. Neil Patrick Harris was also in the cast. Stephen Sondheim was in the audience and came up on stage at the end to Congratulate the cast. He seemed to really enjoy it. ❤️ the whole performance is available here on YouTube. It’s really good.
  • If u wanted to sing along to this version, here are the lyrics! A customer! Wait! What's your rush? What's your hurry? You gave me such a... fright! I thought you was a ghost! Half a minute, can't ya sit? Sit ya down! Sit! All I meant is that I haven't seen a customer for weeks. Did ya come here for a pie, sir? Do forgive me if my head's a little vague. Ugh! What is that? But you'd think we had the plague. From the way that people keep avoiding! No you don't! Heaven knows I try, sir! But there's no one comes in even to inhale! Right you are, sir, would you like a drop of ale? Mind you I can hardly blame them! These are probably the worst pies in London. I know why nobody cares to take them! I should know! I make them! But good? No The worst pies in London Even that's polite! The worst pies in London! If you doubt it take a bite! Ugh! Is that just, disgusting? You have to concede it! It's nothing but crusting! Here drink this, you'll need it. The worst pies in London And no wonder with the price of meat what it is when you get it. Never thought I'd live to see the day. Men'd think it was a treat findin' poor animals what are dyin' in the street. Mrs. Mooney has a pie shop. Does a business, but I notice something weird. Lately, all her neighbors cats have disappeared. Have to hand it to her! What I calls, enterprise! Poppin' pussies into pies! Wouldn't do in my shop! Just the thought of it's enough to make you sick! And I'm telling you them pussycats is quick. No denying times is hard, sir! Even harder than the worst pies in London. Only lard and nothing more- Is that just revolting? All greasy and gritty? It looks like it's molting! And tastes like...we'll pity. A woman alone...with limited wind And the worst pies in London! Ah, sir Times is hard. Times is hard. Isn't that a room up there? Over the shop?

Goddamn Sondheim was brutal making this song 😅
  • Oh my golly. What a spectacular powerful voice. She's a great musical actress. I can't wait to watch Miss Lea Salonga's version on the "Sweeney Todd" here in the Philippines this coming October 2019. 😊.
  • @Bluemilk92
Wow, she really is great. Tbh, I heard so many good things about her performance, I kind of expected to be underwhelmed. Like, you know, it couldn't possibley live up to the hype. But, she's great.... Really, really, great.
  • @nicolerossi1740
