HL2 Beta, whilst being interesting, it felt unoriginal. Just feels like George Orwell's 1984, with the Consul literally being Big Brother. I like how the final product we got feels more real, and isn't dark for the sake of being dark, and instead the dark atmosphere is a backdrop for the story.

People love the beta because it had a "darker story" and that's mainly the only reason.

Honestly, I would have loved to see elements of the Beta go into the retail version of Half Life. I prefer the retail version, as its darkness is more subtle, and Dr. Breen is so much better then the consul ever was, but at the same time the beta was super detailed and looked absolutely amazing in its concept art, even if the gameplay at the time was slow and unfun.

Man, I'm a "big" fan of the Half-Life 2 beta, but I find it kind of ridiculous to keep comparing or saying that the "Beta is better", both Beta and Final versions are great, and also the lores are totally differents.
