Fun fact: ChapStick is a brand. Lip balm is the product. This is one of the best examples of brands that become generic trademarks. A person might say "I used some Chapstick today" but the brand of lip balm they used is actually Burt's Bees or something else. Kleenex, Vaseline, and Xerox are other examples of brands that get used as generic trademarks! OK, back to the dermatology lesson..
  • The CeraVe Healing Ointment changed my LIFE! I bought a double pack of small tubes to make it convenient to carry (one in my purse and one on my bedside table) and my lips felt better, looked better, with less cracking within 24 hours - no exaggeration! Thanks so much for the tip!

I love this, you guys are explaining topics that some other channels don't go into. Skin care is the whole body. I learned so much in this short bit and now I'm inspecting all my lip balm ingredients.

Jamaican here. No winter or dry weather. My lips used to chap and strip every other day. Could not wear matte lipsticks, flaky lips while talking to people.. embarrassing. Chapstick, Blistex, Burt’s bees, EOS…I tried them all! Vaseline is my holy grail. Applied at night and I’m good for the day. So glad somebody recommended it 👌🏾

Thanks a lot for the double moisturising techniques docs. Also, congratulations on crossing 1 million. Well deserved ☺️
  • The double moisturising is such a great advice. I’ve suffered from dry lips pretty much all my life till the last month. I would constantly apply lip balm day in day out, and still my lips would get so damn dry. I though it is the toothpaste or the lip balm or other stuff, tried so many different brands of lip balms and still the Same result. I would finish a whole lip balm tube in less than a month, my dad joked if I eat it lol. But recently I started applying burt’s bees honey lip balm and then applying a layer of Vaseline on top every night and just like that my dry lips problem was solved! There are still such misconceptions about Vaseline being harmful since it’s derived from crude oil and blah blah that we fail to see how it is actually such a useful ingredient. Also the point about the lips having no barrier was really cool to know, wasn’t aware of that. Anyway sorry for such a long comment!

Glad you discussed becoming reliant on lip balm, but then following it up with "well, you need it..." haha! Made me feel better about the doubts I had about using lip balm so much in the winter
  • @godmyte
I'm happy they mentioned double moisturizing with petroleum jelly as a safe and valid method. I have been doing that without any research (just took a swing) and it worked for me amazingly without any problems so I figured I was doing something right.

Once while I was breastfeeding I noticed that lanoline nipple cream heals nipples in few hours, so I applied it on my cracked dry lips in the evening and in the morning I was amazed. Cheap, safe as it is used for breastfeeding, it is just great

Used the lenige lip mask every night for several months, forgot to apply it once and my lips were SO DRY! Decided to quit it cold turkey and my lips dried up and peeled for about two weeks 😭
  • I just love both of them, The way they expound their words. They have myriad pieces of information. ❤️

After Dr.Dray recommended the Cerave Healing Ointment for chapped skin and for lips. I was looking all over for the tube one. And after 3 stores I finally found it. But it was the big ass jar. I was so mad at that point just bought it for like $20-30 and was like YOU COMING HOME WITH ME DANG IT. and my sister laughed at me. WELL... 4 YEARS LATER. I have BARELY made a dent in it and my lips have been soft and supple since! 10/10 recommended. Also if you like diy chapstick/lip balm. It's a little soft for that but it's good for it!!! For travel in my purse I reused an empty cute lipstick tube from Jill Stuart and I get compliments on it all the time. 🥰

I adore you two, what you do for us consumers is priceless. I'd love to have you guys make a video exclusively for old ladies like me that got started on skincare late in life
  • @Rottimail
I use castor oil and it works. It's a thick oil but it has staying power. When I'm at the gym I use avocado oil in a roll on applicator and that works as well. I also use Blistex, Lip Medex. Note: castor oil is used in many skin care products. It works best on mature skin.

I just started watching videos about skin care and yours are awesome, funny, informative, and well thought out. I really appreciate the time both of you take to make them. Right now it has even fixed a problem I have been having which is my irritation and dryness around the mouth even though I am always wearing my favorite lip balm. I have to constantly use a lip balm as I'm a lip licker and using a lip balm makes me stop the habit. I have been using this lip balm for several years so I didn't understand why I have been getting irritation around my mouth, even though I was using it more often which I guess made the problem even worse. When I saw the video I right away used another lip balm as I have different ones in my drawer as other people have gifted them to me and don't use, but instead I always reach for my favorite one. Within 30 minutes of using a different lip balm the irritation calmed down as well as the dryness around my mouth. I never thought my body would have issues with something that I have been fine with for several years but this video taught me differently. Thank you and sorry for the long comment. 😅
  • I’d really love to see the close up/microscopic views of where the lips meet the lip line. I struggle with tiny blackheads all around the lip line, and I’d love to know how I could treat those without damaging the delicate skin on my lips. Thanks guys! You’re so much fun to watch!
  • I've heard influencers say that there are no oil glands in the lips but also go on to say that you should "add" the moisture with chapstick. Thank God for doctors on YouTube ❤️
  • I just love and appreciate you two! I’ve learned so much from you and my skin has completely changed for the better!

I'm always so jealous of women who can wear lipstick and still have normal lips 😂. Even without it my lips are always so dry. It's gotten way better since quitting all the lip balms and just moisturizing them. Gonna test the double method tonight!
