Joe Biden has dropped out of the race to become the next president, after a series of gaffes in 2024 raised concerns about his age, and a disastrous presidential debate performance caused alarm within the Democratic party.

Despite President Biden insisting his memory is fine, he couldn’t recall important numbers and names on several occasions, even introducing Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy as 'President Putin' during a NATO summit.

He lost his train of thought while making key points, not least in the CNN presidential debate alongside Republican candidate Donald Trump.

Occasionally, he appeared lost, requiring guidance from those around him. Former president Barack Obama appeared to take him by the arm to lead him off stage at a Democratic fundraiser.

And after contracting covid at exactly the wrong moment for his campaign, his physical frailty was held in sharp contrast to the 78-year-old Donald Trump.

Under intense pressure, President Biden has now withdrawn his candidacy, and backed Vice President Kamala Harris to become the Democratic nominee.
