Which pouring medium is best for #fluidart painting? In this video I mixed up 2 sets of paints, one with #floetrol and water, and the other with #olgasoby Secret Pouring Recipe (Sony Mix). I used the exact same colors and brands of paints for each set of colors. I mixed them to a similar consistency and poured them in the same composition in the same order. Then, using the #hairdryer and #blowouttechnique, I blew the paints out and used my fingers to create a lovely composition.

Immediately you can see that the paintings turned out quite differently! Each pouring medium has its pros and cons, which I will detail for you in the second half of the video.

▶️ How to mix your paints with floetrol:
   • How to mix your paints for the perfec...

Floetrol pros:
* Less expensive (in the US)
* Created a graduated flecked pattern, and more lacing,
* Dries flat with little to no texture

Floetrol cons:
* Has a strong odor
* NOT archival
* Expensive / not available in other countries

Soby Mix pros:
* More control over where / if you get cells
* Archival, means it won’t yellow or deteriorate over time
* Comes with very specific directions for how to mix and achieve the correct consistency
* Products available in many countries
* Various brands / options available (not specific to one brand of pouring medium or paint brand)

Sony Mix cons:
* Steeper learning curve
* Uses more paint than the Floetrol mix does

  • I liked your comparison. I also took Olga’s course. For people starting out you might think taking a course is a bit expensive but for me I didn’t have a clue of what I was doing and wasted a lot of money on supplies. Then after a year or more of still being confused I took her course and learned so much about paint in general. I believe Olga’s work speaks for itself. Thank you for sharing Becca❤

    Olga’s recipe is nice but so is mine. Australian Floetrol is over $60.00 in Australia but it doesn’t have an odour or lumps and it doesn’t dull colours. I only use it in my CA so it goes on forever. I love Olga but my husband is my carer. He had a medical episode a couple of months ago and now has heart damage. We are waiting for our Government to start home assist so we can stay in our home. We only need a couple of hours help a week but our income is now small. The only thing I ever do is stay in my bed, paint or see one of my Doctors. I did love the comparison. Painting keeps me sane and I cannot afford Olga as much as I would love to watch her. Thank you.
  • As someone who took the Olga Soby course, I greatly appreciate your comparison, Becca. Obviously not everyone appreciates it, but I’ve been wanting to do what you just did myself, and now I don’t have to! 🥳 THANK YOU!!❤

    Thank you so much for showing us the difference. Will definitely be setting aside some funds for taking Olgas course in the near future. You answered a question that I have been pondering.
  • @RoseMCreations
    Thank you for this video. I am going to take her course when time lets me. The vibrant difference sold me.

    Thanks so much for doing this video. I have taken Olga’s class and took a lot of notes. It’s a complicated but your comparison really shows the great results with Olga’s pouring method. ❤

    Thank you for this video. It randomly popped up. I appreciate you respected Olga and not sharing her recipe. The results using Olga’s mix looks incredible over flowtrol!!!! Thank you for this video!!!!!
  • Such a great comparison video Becca! I signed up for Olga’s course when it was first released and not only does she explain step by step her secret recipes, but it’s just one of the overall all most informative courses I’ve ever taken. 🤗💕
  • Wow, some of these ignorant people! I hope they arent posting on otger artist videos who sre dissecting other rescipes. Its really low standard for mature adults.... Good job Becca and thanks for sharing your valued input!

    Great video! It’s nice seeing the comparison. I wanted to do this, but never got around to it. I’ve taken Olga’s course, and it was really detailed. Probably the most detailed course I’ve ever taken. Definitely worth the money. Unfortunately, after trying to get the recipe to work for me for months, I ended up switching back to floetrol. I felt like I had way more control with my floetrol recipe, and my paintings dried perfectly flat. Now I’m currently trying different recipes and experimenting. There really is no right or wrong, just what you prefer! 🤗

  • @mywifetheartist
    Great video. Thanks for sharing. ❤❤❤. The colors are stunning.
  • I have taken her class myself using her black Friday sell😊 but I am really loving her new recipe. I could tell an immediate difference between my old Floetrol recipe and her new recipe! Still really enjoyed watching you compare for those who haven't tried her new recipe. Beautiful video I see pros and cons to both recipes!! And will be using both recipes for different things....
  • Great comparison, think I prefer the floetrol as I am not a real fan of the cells and prefer less cells if get some
  • @katysimcock2299
    Thanks Becca for this comparison. It was really informative and helpful. I have taken Olga’s recipe course and am nearly finished it and now seeing your comparison I can’t wait to get started with trying Olga’s recipes for myself. Thank you again coz it’s definitely given me some extra oomph to get out there and give it a go 😊
  • @lzfluidart8315
    Thx so much for doing this comparison, I love the way the Olga version looks but was curious if the contents were expensive, it’s good to know they are not that much more! ❤❤
