Public sector workers are in line for a pay rise but 10 million pensioners will lose out on winter fuel payments in an attempt to fill a £22 billion black hole in the public finances, the Chancellor has announced.

Rachel Reeves said she was making “difficult decisions” as she accused the previous government of leaving £21.9 billion of unfunded commitments that it had “covered up from the country”.

Talk’s Peter Cardwell is joined by editor of The Times Money Mentor, Georgie Frost, to discuss the Chancellor’s “immediate action” to address the shortfall.

Yes penalise the pensioner the poor pensioner on a pittance but can’t get pensions credit. Thanks Labour pay a doctor on 50,000 a mere £11,000 a year more. This is sickening.

School fees. This is a disgrace. It’s a disincentive to better and improve your life. Labour the bottom feeders
  • Utter joke what she's come out cutting winter fuel payment to pensioners who most likely have never claimed benefits so just above levels to claim it's an utter disgrace "SHAME ON YOU LABOUR"

Pension credits go to those people who have not been working or have been on benefits during their working years, so the Labour Party are penalising the hard working people from the private sector, with many of them having modest state pensions.

20 billion is the amount given by the last 2% NI rate cut easy fix reverse the cut and keep the pensioner winter payment

Im old enough to remember when the Labour Party fought for the average family and just a few generations prior were formed by the average people. Labour originally stood for... "We Stand For The Hard Labour Worker" 🤷🏻‍♂️
  • Given labour's net zero policies and the implications this has for energy bills this is going to cause real problem for many pensioners, who will loose their energy bill help!
  • Every Labour government is the same. Tax and spend. The working people always end up poorer under labour. Labour no longer represents the working people.

They should recover the 38 billion which disappeared on Track and Trace during covid.
