Hey, you might think that this info makes me your lawyer, but it doesn’t and I’m not. Sorry, but I AM NOT YOUR LAWYER unless we have an engagement agreement. I am just providing public information here, like a library does, and am not providing you with legal advice about your situation. So, it would be totally unreasonable for you to conclude we have an attorney-client relationship just because you're viewing this information.

I've been polygraphed four or five times in regard to a felony theft at my (then) place of employment. This was in Illinois; by law you can get a copy of your results once the report is written. The first two (by a private firm) resulted in a pair of detectives leaning hard on me, accusing me of lying and then lying themselves. I gave them no traction and no confession. The next two or three were administered by the sheriff's department in house specialist. They pulled out all the stops: wash hands, shoes off, no watch allowed, and conducted in a locked interrogation room. Those sessions lasted hours, with the deputies often leaving for long period of time. The heat was jacked up, then the A/C blasted. Again I was accused of lying and told I failed the tests. Again they got nothing; I hadn't done it, and I had no solid idea who had. I received the reports about two weeks after the cops did. I had registered ZERO lies, but a lot of "inconclusives," even about some random things. Polygraphs are first and foremost an interrogation tool used to bully you into giving up information or confessing. Don't ever confess to something you didn't do.

I took polygraph tests every 7 years for work. My favorite question was: Have you ever paid money for sex? I always answered "I bought my wife a house" 😂
  • The inventor said explicitly that it was inaccurate and not to be used to prosecute people

Well, to be fair, a lie detector test is really just meant to detect nervousness, and based upon the answer and how anxious the person is, the administers make an educated guess.

As someone who had to take a test a long time ago (not at a police station or anything like that) they are most definitely beatable. They have to tell you the questions before you take them so you don't create brain activity anticipating the question and throw off the test. Study the questions and lie to yourself until you convince yourself you're telling the truth. If you can't do that, listen to the questions carefully. Example "Did you write a naughty word on the wall is completely different than did you write naughty words on the wall" One is singular, and one is plural. Remind yourself to stay calm. Control your breathing with deep calm breaths.
  • The get drunk technique is not 100% useful not only because it doesn't work but so when some people get drunk the end up saying things to honestly or don't pay attention to what is said

Nice crying face! You're too funny Mike!! 🌲 Merry Christmas to you and your family!! 🧑‍🎄

I’d love to see them do a polygraph on a woman going through menopause. You’re sitting there all comfy and normal, and then…..hot flash! You start sweating profusely, your heart rate goes up, you start fidgeting (because hot flashes are sooo uncomfortable), and I’m not sure about blood pressure.
