A Brooklyn family says they are perpetually in mourning, not only over the loss of their loved one, but because of the way they had to say goodbye to her. As CBS2's Lisa Rozner reported Tuesday, they're suing the funeral home because they don't want this to happen to anyone else.

  • No way she was embalmed and kept in cold storage if she was smelling and decomposing! This is just awful and unacceptable! I pray the family gets compensated and the funeral home is investigated and fined!

My grandfather died during covid and it took us 3 weeks to bury him. At his funeral, he looked like he was 60 years old again. He looked so handsome and happy. That's my last memory of him. It still brings me some peace. I'm so sorry for this family to have that awful memory to live with.

Seeing your deceased loved one's body is difficult enough even when it's properly preserved. To see the body all rotted and mangled has got to be a type of pain I can't even imagine. And the fact that the family is Haitian, a culture that holds high reverence for the treatment of their dead, makes it even more tragic.
  • At my grandma's funeral I was so scared to look into the casket. When I finally did I was so relieved to see how peaceful and well put together she was. The fact that that last memory was robbed from these people is sickening.

Completely unacceptable!! Shame on them for the disrespect!!
  • This woman was one of my best friends and it's devastating to me and everyone who knew and loved her that this us the way she was treated. She was a beautiful, kind, FUNNY, sarcastic, loving and loyal person and she is missed terribly. I can't believe that she is gone but she will forever live on in our hearts. Sleep in peace Regina.

That's awful. It's already a nightmare for a parent to bury their children but this takes it to another horrific level. This is a disgrace to mortitioners everywhere.

This is heartbreaking. The family needs a refund and compensation for the trauma they went through.

That is beyond sad and unacceptable... I was beyond grateful for the funeral director when my 9-month-old baby passed away. She literally had him looking like an angel. I couldn't believe how angelic he looked. My child was literally glowing! I gave the director the biggest hug and thanked her from the bottom of my heart, with tears streaming down my face. She cried as well... I wish this is how this family would have felt when they saw their loved one for the last time...
  • I could not even imagine how her mother feels. This is awful. Rest In Peace Ms.Regina.

I'm speechless! Having just buried my mom just a few weeks ago. I know the sadness and sorrows, this family feels.
  • Even if they waited to long , yall are still missing the point that the funeral home allowed them to see her like that. Thats disgusting af.

I've been to an open casket funeral of a person that had been deceased for about 2 weeks, and she looked presentable. Prompt body pickup, prompt embalming and preserving of the body, prompt refrigeration of the body are critical. Every single step in preparing a body is extremely, extremely time sensitive. This funeral home really dropped the ball and did this beautiful young woman AND her family a huge disservice. They deserve a refund, and I'm glad they filed a lawsuit. I'm glad this funeral director seemed emotional, apologized or attempted to apologize..but it's a too little, too late situation. You have to do things on strict protocol, and the way her body was presented...besides the decomposition, I cannot even imagine their horror and mental, emotional anguish!!! They deserve a full settlement and refund, that won't even take the terrible memories away...but it's the least they can have. I am so sorry this family had to endure this trauma, they were already traumatized by her untimely death. Being a funeral director is a calling, it's not just a career. You must take every step to preparing a body as if that person was your own family member. Was this beautiful young woman treated like family? Was her family treated this way? Absolutely NOT. So sorry to this family 😔
  • She was BEAUTIFUL.🌸🤎🏵 Condolences to the family. I’m so sorry.🕊🌱

WTH? Funeral homes can be so ghoulish. This is horrific, beautiful woman, a nurse, so disrespectful to treat her that way.
  • Rest In Peace Angel Regina! You were a wonderful nurse and amazing to work with 🕊️
