The most powerful slugs i've tested so far... the new JSB knockout mk11 mk2

Published 2023-05-18
Here i test out the new mk11 jsb ko slugs through a couple of field target air rifles, my XTi50 and Anschutz 9015 both sub 12 .177 calibre
i also test them in the airmaks katran, alongside some zan slugs aswell

they have a very unusual shape and make a lot more power than previous slugs ive tested on the channel, they are only around 20 fps slower than a jsb heavy so must be pretty efficient and make good power

the scopes are the optisan cp and the huge discovery ed prs 5-25x56

they are surprisingly accurate especially as none of the rifles are optimised for slug ammo

in the future i will prepare a couple of new barrel blanks to suit the slugs, these show some real potential!

the zan slugs still prove to be particularly accurate in the sub12 rifles.

Love your ongoing research into slugs on sub 12ft rifles Pete. I've been doing exactly the same and have had my best results with the ZANs. Of my .177 PCP rifles I've actually found the 13 grain slugs performed better than the 10grains. I think this is because they are slightly longer and therefore load straighter into the barrel. Just trying the lighter lead free ones at the moment which also surprisingly seem to be working well. I need to get some JSBs to try now by your results. Keep up the good work 👍
  • It really makes my day to watch your content. Nice to see that Peter the Goat! Best wishes Paul

Thanks for the content brother - love the videos. Is there a better word than 'squiffy' for a malformed skirt?
  • Interesting to see quite good groups considering the relatively low velocity. I'm shooting H&N, ZAN and JSB slugs in fac but only finding JSB are accurate in my barrel, with the MK1's being best of all.
  • worth noting the new jsb are 4.49 head size so should work better through the choke of the barrel. but my katran in .177 prefers 4.52 head sizes lol havent tried any slugs in the .22 katran yet but it isnt bad with hades
  • A smaller amount of targets on the paper you shoot less pellets at them and mark on the paper which pillow goes to which target got it

I only shoot .22 and .25, in only rifled barrels and usually at higher velocities of 800fps to 1000fps, but find a World of difference between unchoked and choked barrels (various makes, usually LW). In choked barrels I consistently find JSB pellets best but in unchoked barrels the Zan slugs (even modified version 2's) are unsurpassed. I suspect many pellets/slugs are designed and modified for FX barrels and that those shooting rifled barrels just have to make the most of what comes.
  • Brilliant as usual Tommy. Great to see Pete taking an interest 😂
  • My Brocock Sniper shoots the JSB KO quite well and does group quite well, on the fence about the new design and wayward shots here and there. Time to stock up on some oroginal tins or to splash the cash and give the new ones a go?

Loving the vids on slugs , just get the feeling its constantly an uphill struggle to get optimum results .. at some point your gonna have to throw in the towel and test a few more pellets instead ..

The new design Mark 2 flared skirt knockout here in US is only available in 25 cal. and 22cal .216. What happened to the .217 & .218 ??? I don't understand why !! Why is that JSB ???

I've got a Steyr FT110 Sub 12ft/lbs. The stainless steel barrel has to be kept lead free or it will not group. Every 200 - 300 pellets it needs a thorough cleaning to remove the lead or accuracy suffers.

Good to see Pete .. I bet you did have more of the first target when you started .. did you check if Pete ate them 🤣
  • Noticed your biathlon target at the beginning of this video, have you modified a Milbro target to make it resetting?
  • What's interesting with your first group with your 9015, my redwolf does the same thing. The first slug is slightly off, and the rest of the group alright. I'm probably overthinking this like mad.
  • What size is the Discovery scope you have on the xti 50? Will it work on my hw80?
  • @ADSUPINTHIS
What's the glove for? Using it as a "bag" of sorts?
  • @Jeeper1378
Wonder what happened with thw 177 Mk2’s dont see anywhere?
