My Week with the 2024 Subaru WRX TR

Published 2024-07-04
I spend a week with the 2024 Subaru WRX TR to see how the TR upgrades as well as the 2024 changes to the WRX affect it, for better and for worse. I also discuss how it compares to the upcoming WRX tS and its other competitors. What do you think about the 2024 WRX TR? Thanks to Subaru for providing this vehicle to review.

  • Great video Matt 👍 Loved the OG Subaru WRX FAN into. Hope you and the family are doing well. Peace from Virginia ✌

Wow. I like critical Matt as opposed to “it’s not that great, but it’s fine.” Or “I don’t really like it but it’s fine.” Being critical and committing to the flaw is more fun to watch.

I think Subaru has been phoning it in for a long time. My opinion is that they don't seem to care about about enthusiasts. They just wanna sell Crosstrecks. Even manufacturers that are struggling make minor improvements as needed. Matts right about the bang for buck aspect with the GR.

I just read Motortrend's review of the TR. In all performance metrics, it's just about the same of all other WRX models. This seems kinda pointless for the prices

Your insight and experience is highly valued, thanks!!

Great job, Matt. I'm glad you spent the week with this car right after the Elantra N for reference
  • @vehiclenanny
Thanks, Matt. This was a good, honest and fair review.
  • @mustangdbest220
It looks like a Honda civic in the back with the lights eww 💩
  • @Jackpot006
Thanks for always providing your true thoughts on how you feel about a car and the manufacturer’s decisions, whether it may be positive or negative. Don’t change, Matt!

It’s pretty nice but I would change those plastic fenders for carbon fiber ones. But I think I would rather have a Elantra N instead.

oh, man, Maran. this feels like the video i would have made if i had gone through with a TR order. your underlying disappointment is palpable. 😕 i've been trying to convince myself to place an order at my local dealer for three months now, but never felt 100% sure. i've had four STIs previous, so i know and love the product, but something in the back of my mind kept waving me off the follow through and this week i finally committed to something ... a 2024 Audi S4 Prestige, fully loaded, that i pick up this weekend. i know it's weird to cross-shop those two, but i am that guy. thanks for an honest, straight-forward review.
  • The Premium trim around $35k seems like the sweet spot for these. Once you’re in the $40k range, there are better options out there for most people. Great video, Matt!

I remember my 2004 STi had a cutout in the right hand bolster to help provide room for shifting and armrest access.

Great video. I had a 2001 WRX and absolutely loved the hell out of it for every second, and it didn't have any of these "advancements" you talk about here, most of which seem to make the car worse or at least no better. And the acceleration time is the same as my '01, and for way more money even adjusting for inflation. Thats nutso. Cant figure out who this car is for, considering the competition.
