Do note the torpedo damage is from S9, not the S10's it will have. So it will deal even more damage. And some of the turrets will be upscaled, from what John Crewe said (AFTER it started appearing ingame during flybys). It will pretty much be the glass cannon of the capital world, with the Idris being the main battle tank. An idris behind a Polaris, byebye Polaris. A Polaris facing an Idris with enough torps launched, byebye Idris.

Hate to say this, but it was never designed, or shall ever be a solo ship.

I'm very excited for this ship just as a main base for both myself and others when they come online. It has a lot of versatility and is going to be really fun to be able to load up whatever you want inside and practically do what ever content you want. I love the idea of being able to load up a prospector with extra bags in the hold or vulture (maybe????) and have a mobile storage point for your industrial needs. Or just do a quick swap for a fighter and now you have something else for your crew to do if they dont want to sit in a turret. My only concern is the missile turret in the back. It seems like the ammo count is super low especially if we cant reload missiles by ourselves. Just seems like a waste of turret space for potentially another quad size 3 turret.

You're getting a lot of solo Polaris hate, but CIG knows some people want to operate larer ships solo (I want this too). I have no doubt NPC crew/server blades will compensate for lack of human crew. CIG is big on immersion and people forget NPCs can be programmed to do a lot more than just man turrets and shoot things. The Polaris is cool as hell, I'm excited for you, and cant wait to hear more about your experience when it gets in game.

Just melted my A2 for the Polaris. So happy to own this amazing ship!

In all this solo rahrah, people seem to be neglecting two very important points. One, the server strain each Polaris will have, especially on launch when we all take ours out individually to see it. However, it does cost 750 so it would be reasonable for a solo-is-possible-in-a-highly-limited-way-with-immense-prep-and-funds to be accommodated. Server meshing is not an all powerful crutch, but neither can CIG ignore just how much they have sold ships like this. I fear we will all suffer funding premiums later down the line, hopefully they can optimize a solo'd large/capitol server/client side rendering cost. I feel this is why they are milking us so hard right now, cause this will be quite the expensive game to run, and subscription model or whatnot else will catch up quick... P.S. I cant wait for the day the Polaris launches. The server lag and drama will be unforgettable. Everyone fighting over dock space, people not giving a shit, probably F12 while exploring their Polaris while in dock not taking off while everyone is yellling at them. Global will be NUTS I tell you.

About the ship metrics, starjump did a video where he manually measured it and he concluded that it in fact did not grow in size, it is still 165m. The 181m measure was datamined and is more likely a “safesone” box around polaris to hold other ships away from it. Of course starjump, and thus I, can be wrong, so point of this comment is to say that nothing is concrete yet.

I, too, am primarily a solo player. Anyone else want to band together for our larger ships?
  • In the long run I can't see this being the "ultimate solo ship". It's simply too big to manage when the actual features start to come in and as far as A.I. that will be years after that. I think the Carrack and the Liberator will be as big as one can manage . Even those will be in the sense of being able to do different activities at a whim while bringing your different ships along, not like say combat. I think alot of people will end up melting this really large ships because nobody is going want to crew them outside of org play for the most part. Imagine getting attacked while solo with a snare of something , you will have zero chance at survival lol. I would just be weary of these large ships as a solo. The wait time alone after getting it destroyed is probably going to be session ending.... Off topic question but does anybody know if the (endeavor or odyessy, I can't remember the name) "refiner" ship that's like $150 is going to be able to buy raw materials from a base or station and resell them refined for a profit or will you have to mine the raw stuff first??

Also a Polaris owner, I believe if we do have 432 SCu you will be able to haul cargo short distances in the safety of monitored space in between combat expeditions to cover the operating costs of running this. And regarding engineering, if you just want to haul cargo short distances solo, a basic pre-flight check of components for short travel distances in monitored space will suffice, the ship won't just degrade and implode because you flew from Seraphim station to Baijini point.
  • @kumyo
Heard no pilot controlled weapons so that’s going to be hard to solo daily driver realistically
  • @artsolano6762
I think the expenses to run this ship solo will be very large. You always want the right tool for the job. This ship is a great pirate flag ship and military fleet support, interdiction, fleet support, and raiding. It’s not the right tool for most missions.

In this size category (well, a tab bit smaller at some ~130m) I look forward to the Arrastra the most. It is not a shiny combar vessel, it might not be as good as anallrounder, and it does nothave the same amenities (no medbeds, boo), but mining and refining in one go makes my greedy soul happy, and unless they change it back, it is supposed to have an on-board garage for up to two ursa sized vehicles, so you can just put a Nursa there. With its crew listed as 2-3, it should be fairly soloable, and act as a decent mobile base. With all of its turrets being remote, here's hoping I can just blade them up.
  • @zqwc
Wait till we finally get the Banu Merchantman. Probably will be one of the most sought after capital ships in the game with how much money it will make you.
  • @4hire565
Solo??. Oh damn, this is going to be good.
  • @mattin5850
I think this ship will be solo cargo ship, with AI maybe a solo heavily protected cargo ship and with a crew it will be a proper multi role military ship
  • @ivanshiek
On Erkul, you can turn off all turrets and turn each on separately to see the individual DPS. That's important because not all turrets will be used on an enemy or can target one. Which means you won't be using the 11k DPS to individual turrets. So you'll need to know where it's weakest sides are both for defense and offense.
  • This will be my solo ship just as a base and as a cargo ship. Will have a fighter, a mining ship or a salvage ship in it.
  • @JaykeoSaurus
I have the Polaris but without AI companions to help you manage the ship you might as well fly the ship only in Stanton. Good luck in Pyro, without a crew where there are no laws. I can see a lot of players attacking Polaris ships. Especially if they are not fully manned. I mean you can shoot the rockets in the Polaris driver seat but it's a hit or miss if you will actually hit someone with it.

890 space tampon is 900 bucks? why, i would pay 400 tops for it i want to explore with polaris, basically make it my main ship to do everything on, i like the design of ships more than function and polaris was the think i wanted since they announced it. I dont even play much now days because of lack of energy so i just want to jump on,fly abit with my favourite ship and call it a day.Yes the money issue comes up where im gonna get fuel or repairs or ammo for this big ship, idk maybe i will just buy credits from players with real money so i dont have to grind endlessly
