Gary Richrath - Golden Country (Live)

Published 2022-04-23
This video was recorded Nov. 8th 1990 at City Limits in E. Peoria IL. by Ron Mcfall. This is a video I fixed for Ron. When it originally uploaded, it got split and audio dropped out. And it had to be watched in 2 parts. I spliced them together so it could be watched in it's entirety. I do not own any rights to this.

This may sound like an over statement but I honestly believe that Gary Richrath belongs in the RHOF!! He was so far beyond his years in technique, licks, style and progressions. After all these years I am still in awe of his incredible talent!! Go on with your bad self Gary. Never Rest In Peace, rock down the house Brother...

I can’t honestly say I was at Woodstock but I can honestly say I was at this show. Lived across the river in Peoria at the time. How crazy to see this on YouTube some 34 years later! As you can see Gary did not disappoint! A local guy who made it big and an absolute monster guitar player. Awesome show and so glad someone recorded it. RIP Gary

Gary could really tear that guitar up his solo's were blistering hot!
  • Gary was my favorite REO member and this was My favorite REO song by far.
  • Gary could play like no other. Guitar legend. He does belong in the RRHOF. I was so matched they fired him from the front. There was no forgiveness in my book. My love for reo faded after that. I still listen to Gary Era music.

Got to see Gary's solo project a few years after he left REO. So glad I did. I so enjoyed an intimate show in a small venue. I stood right in front of the stage as he sang Son of a Poor Man. I'll never forget it! He was always one of my favorites! Rock on Gary.
  • Absolutely LOVE watching Gary perform and miss him so much!!! RIP ❤😢
  • That smile at the end of this performance really gets to me ❤️. Miss you Gary! RIP ❤😢

Got to see Gary on that tour, in Green Bay. I remember him peeking out from behind the stage curtain on the side of the stage to size up the crowd. Then he frowned. He broke at least 4 strings that night. Nine Lives is the reason I got an electric guitar.

Gary was REO Speedwagon with no Gary there would’ve been no REO plain and simple. I saw these guys live a number of times people reacted to the guitar more than anything. Gary was one of a kind guitarist. Nobody can copy him or mimic his sound. All of the greats are like that when he left the band to me, they were dead. It’s really sad that one of the first members of the band gets thrown out by a guy that joins in later and tries to destroy Gary’s vision of the band and the type of music they should play. Rest in peace Gary you’re sorely missed.

NOBODY played a Les Paul better. NOBODY. Not even Les Paul himself. RIP Gary.
  • I was there with his ex Barb and a bunch of our friends. Great guitar player and entertainer.
