I loved this game so much. I was literally just telling my wife how much this game meant to me and how much time I used to spend on it. despite its issues- it's one of my all-time best gaming experiences. so sad games like this just became obsolete
  • @OreoForRuario
Literally just searched for your channel as I remembered your previous re-reviews and wanted to see if you did one for GT5, as I'm thinking of playing it again, to see you uploaded this 19 minutes ago. Crazy timing.
  • @RyanCarbo96
Yes I MUCH prefer the longer videos! Please keep them longer rather than 10-15 minutes

A few things to point out: - The final number of premium cars was just around 500 after multiple free updates. - While there were technical challenges GT5 was attempting a bunch of things Forza wouldn’t attempt for another decade (time of day, weather), or not at all (head tracking with the PSEye). - A lot of the issues with GT5 were fixed or improved with GT6 including menus, quantity out of the box, load speeds, online lobbies, availability of time of day and weather in ALL tracks (was limited to some in GT5), etc.

Honesly, having played gt 1-6, forza 8, horizon 4 and 5, countless need for speeds, test drives and so many other racing games, gt5 is the one that brings the nicest memories. Not because of the single player mode, which was serviceable, but because of the online. I made so many friends, had sessions going to the same servers, and would race all night while chatting away with people from all around the world. I think this game was released on just the right time for online interactions. Companies weren't focused on instant match availability and just let people create their own servers, and players weren't aggressively competitive. We had a real sense of community there. I remember setting up a server sometimes, and there were always the familiar faces, paired up with a few new ones. We'd create our own racing rules, each server had their preferred ones, and it was very comforting to see it all working just fine. I still have some replays from that time saved up.

To be fair, GT7 went for quality over quantity and then everybody moaned about it, so I don't think people really know what they want these days.
  • @idexpro8263
It’s funny how GT5 and FM5 are considered the “Worst” in their respective series at the time
  • @N7RiZe
The reason why GT5 looks weird is mostly due to the resolution being stretched. GT5 runs at 1280x1080, that's the same horizontal resolution as 720p so that's a lot of stretching to appear on a 16:9 display (1280 to 1920). If you run in 720p you also get better anti aliasing at x4 msaa vs 2x qaa. GT6 would be a little better at 1440x1080 which is the equivalent to 4:3 1080p, but that's still stretching which makes the game look bad. I personally prefer to run it at 720p for the benefit of the more stable frame rate.

I prob watched ur original review of gt 5 a number of times! Im glad to see another video on it!

I started playing this game a couple of weeks after launch and was hooked to it like a Florida crackhead with a crack pipe, made friends playing online and partook in some community organized leagues and overall I had an absolute blast with the game throughout its lifespan, was sad to see it shut down in 2014. Recently I got into it through RPCS3 and my god all the memories came flooding back like no time has passed, despite all the flaws it had (and it had A LOT OF THEM) this GT was the one that had the most impact on me and I'll fondly remember it.
  • @SimRacer778
5:37 Online does work on GT5 (and GT6) again, thanks to a Discord community that brought it back.
  • @FJRudman
Great review :) I recently did a play through of GT5 and I forgot how much I loved it… until I got to level 25 and had finished the licenses, special events, and the best A-spec events then remembered at that point it really becomes the HUGE grind 😂
  • @Punisher1_1995
Here is some advice for if you review GT6, if you turn on flicker reduction in the settings it enables better AA and engages v-sync. Same for gt5 I think.
  • @Atimo133
No matter how many Re-Reviews you do i wanna se them all
  • @ohareport
that grind was never so hard when the online events were running— they rewarded way bigger prize money. i wish the final update could gave just patched it to run all the previous online events in a rotating calendar. sigh.

Back in my University days, I had a GT Driving Force Pro set up on a little table with a make shift set up, and used to have a group of mates over a few days a week to play this game, complete the challenges and races, etc. Even the Vettel Red Bull challenge with the X2021 or whatever it was called, bonkers. A few of us worked together and practiced and we did a “party” to do the 24 Hours of Le Mans. A team of us rotated and drove, but a bunch of others came over and ate, drank, etc. GT5 holds a special place in my heart, what a game. Would love to go back to it, GT6 and 7 have been good, but just haven’t felt the same. Great review, cheers 😄
