Supreme Court allows cities to enforce bans on homeless sleeping outside

The Supreme Court decided on Friday that cities can enforce bans on homeless people sleeping outdoors, even in West Coast areas where shelter space is lacking. The case is the most significant to come before the high court in decades on the issue and comes as a rising number of people in the U.S. are without a permanent place to live.

In a 6-3 decision along ideological lines, the high court reversed a ruling by a San Francisco-based appeals court that found outdoor sleeping bans amount to cruel and unusual punishment.

Now let law enforcement arrest and prosecute career criminals.

Why don’t the bureaucrats sign the docs and stop holding up those 40 plus apartment buildings in LA COUNTY. Why not put the LASHA person who stole millions in jail and plaster her face everywhere.

They won’t make the homeless leave the streets but fine the business owners for putting out planters to keep the homeless away from their businesses. In LA.

Party is over. Time to go home.
  • @lindaminton
Vagrancy law's were always effective in combating homelessness. 😮

Homelessness on streets and public areas is not safe and unhealthy for all... unsanitary conditions can spread diseases and/or cause diseases for the Homelessness...
  • The ruling enforces law and order, which had been previously cast aside by incompetent officials.
  • @rougecampos317
The problem is that these activists are the problem to the solution of the homeless...they activists should take the homeless home instead of making it a burden for people to fix the problem...theirs no commen sense in the city politicians
  • Homelessness is big business and the nonprofit industrial complex doesn’t want to lose their funding and salaries. There are around 100 nonprofits taking public funds from L.A. for homeless services. With this extreme level of disorganization, lack of leadership, and no public accountability, it is like burning tax dollars in a big bonfire. How about starting off with a 10 year audit on how L.A. tax dollars have been spent on homeless services with an accounting on how many homeless people actually received services, shelters, and permanent housing and the actual billed cost per item of service and/or housing? Oh…one more thing. Recall Mayor Bass! She is useless.

Thank goodness!!! Get to it Pasadena!! Whoever is against this ruling can invite the homeless over to their place.
  • This is going to make them desperate like you never seen which makes it very dangerous out there stay safe
  • @Doomzday831
The people that created fentanyl should be in prison!
  • Supreme Court just said that homeless don't have a right to pitch tents in front of your house or on a public street or park--this makes perfect common sense! It's time for LA City/County officials to CLEAN UP all of LA telling these homeless, majority of which are not native LA residents, to packup and move along. Pandemic is OVER, it's time to make living on street or in a RV illegal again. LA could be nice and offer them bus passes and/or plane tickets back to their home towns or another destination of their choice. Time to CLEAN UP this MESS!!

This ruling will do nothing. There are too many homeless. They have to sleep somewhere
  • The so called National Alliance to end Homelessness is primarily concerned with enabling and continuing homelessness as it is a cash cow for them and so many "experts" and consultants, developers and many so-called non-profits. Most of the homeless individuals have addiction and mental health issues. They need this addressed not just given housing. They cannot be given housing without also being required to be in programs.
  • @plantmanstudios
If I had the money I'd buy land and build a city FOR the homeless
  • BUT KEEP THE TAXES HIGH FOR TAXPAYERS AND THE NON-TAXPAYERS (HOMELESS) CAN BE REMOVED. SICK, FILTHY CORPORATE JUDGES
  • This is a difficult subject. On one hand the majority of what we labeled as homeless are primarily individuals who've fallen prey to the fentanyl that china and cartels are pushing up from Mexico. On the other hand, housing is too expensive and the credit system is an insurmountable obstacle for many. What are homeless people like myself who aren't drug addicted supposed to do, give up entirely since there is no actual help out there?
