Laying off hundreds of workers to make your profit margins bigger is like cutting off your own legs in order to lose weight.
  • @BitBlush
And the worst part? A lot of these animators found out via tweet. Their bosses didn't even bother telling them. Some found out their life's work was turned into lost media as a tax write-off the same way.

It used to be “Boss makes a dollar, I make a dime.” Now it’s “Boss makes a million, I get laid off to cut costs.”
  • @unfunniestman
This is literally that time Mr. Krabs fired Spongebob so he didn't have to pay him his monthly 65 cents

Big studios should treat animation workers the respect they deserve! I just can't stand their greediness anymore.

Most animated shows nowadays are either from Indie corporations like glitch, companies outside the US like the Bluey creators, and for some reason, Adult Swim
  • My dad is an animator at a Canadian studio. Over the pandemic, streaming services massively over-ordered shows to fill their slots, and then promptly cancelled them once they realized that the streaming boom was not permanent. Now, the countless animators that had been hired to work on these non-existent shows are being laid off, because an executive doesn’t understand that there aren’t an infinite amount of people on Earth who can subscribe to Netflix

What’s even worse is how much it screws over new grads, this kinda crap removes beginner positions in animation, and any of those positions that are available are flooded with tens of thousands of applications of seniors and new graduates who are either competing for a job that’s still not enough to sustain them in this economy.

Also a not so fun fact is they continue to basically run animation sweat shops in korea and it's basically been unchecked and unchallenged. From the 90s to current day even. Even people who work in the industry still or previously did just either didn't know or called it the price of doing business for a career they enjoyed.

It’s really sad what’s currently happening with western animation but can I just say I love how this animation isn’t just a glorified ad and instead a really insightful one minute PSA? The art style cute, the voice acting good, it’s mostly taken seriously but the jokes they do add don’t ruin the mood and it tells a lot of information in a digestible chunk. It again sucks the industry is the way it is now, but good job on getting the message across. This got a lot more heart and soul in it than the executives who fired all these animators.

Thank you Spamton for keeping us informed

The way Discovery treats CN now is a goddamn sacrilege. Shutter their studio, reap their shows from Max, and constantly milk their popular IPs dry when they really should be approving new ideas. Zaslav is a menace to all things animation, and here's to hoping that the strike can stop Discovery's shady practices and reignite CN back into the beautiful animation powerhouse it once was. #RIPCartoonNetwork

Studio that makes money by producing animated shows: Producing these animated shows is cutting into our budget. Let's cancel all of them. Studio after people don't watch shows that don't exist: Where banana?

It’s a shame, it’s been a dream of mine to work for Cartoon Network one day. I’m really glad you’re spreading awareness about this
  • Instead of trying to bring a dead studio back, let's try our best to be better than them. Make our own Animation studios!

"Cartoon Network isn't dead they've got Teen Titans Go" . . . "Are you dumb?" "Yep nvm"
