Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad - Chama to Antonito

Published 2016-06-23
Turn up your speakers and enjoy the sights and sounds of the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad route from Chama, NM to Antonito, CO during the fall. This low-budget and shaky GoPro-on-a-stick footage provides a very realistic experience of one of the highest and most beautiful narrow gauge steam train trips in the world.

Earney Robart and I worked on the CATS RR in1970 it was an adventure of a life time so old so beautiful so mechanical. I could write a story of the adventure. We had a great time resurrecting that quite old train. In my years I look back at that time and it was one of the best of times. We had to lay track ,blast boulders, destroy new hi way construction, to keep our right of way, watching and feeling a 300,000 pound jumps in to the air 6 inches in to the air, firing a locomotive after sitting for years, tending the boiler the first night of steam. I truly wish I could show you the adventure it has been fifty years but it doesn't seem that long ago. Clay Bair

This was great to see. There are very few full vids of Chama to Antonito on youtube. Thank you for this one.

THE THING IS::It is good to have some thing like this that you can go on a trip and the scenery is beholding the noise of the engine ia a symphony in it's self. Have some thing like this only in America.

My daughter lives in Antonito. They got to see the loco and get pics, but never rode behind.

Hod did this track way come to be? Is this government land or a ranch or what? I noticed that there were no wildlife what so ever, large or small, or even a single bird of any kind, no hawks or buzzards or even a sparrow! Great scenery and one heck of a ride. I really enjoyed the ride! Thanks for the video!

Great video, fantastic scenery. Inspired by these videos to do my own train travelling. New GoPro will help my shaky photography.

Well, I don't think that the "low-budget and shaky GoPro-on-a-stick footage" turned out too bad at all. It's certainly better than anything I could ever do at least!
  • Great video! How about adding some altitudes? Must be pretty elevated, judging by the work the loco is doing!
