This brother is like my Father and my Uncle. He's like a friend when your in need. He's just amazing. His music gets me through literally. I listen to his songs every single day. He lives on through me. Like everyday I play his music as I lay these tiles and carpet traveling the east cost working these hotels. It's almost like it's the 80's and he's still on tour. I'm only 32 and there was an old vet named Anthony Lambright from Martinsburg WV that put me on to his music when I was passing through and I've been listening to him ever since. Thank you Anthony.

The man was a Prophet. Been listening to his music and poetry for over 40 years. It's 2014 and it's Winter in America......still Walk in Beauty Gil. Thank you for sharing your brilliance and profound love with the World.
  • Listening to Gil and Brian Jackson brings back so many memories of growing up in the 70's! Their challenging the system and enlightening us to what was really happening in America was profound.

One of America's greatest poets....living or dead.  I've been listening to Gil since the 1970's.   He hasn't made a bad record or a misstep in his long impressive career.   His record THE OTHER SIDE (A take on his HOME IS WHERE THE HATREDT IS) makes me cry....every time....and I ain't no flower.   Him....well into his sixties or nearly 70 telling us about addiction...from experience.    Me, on the wromg side of 60, experienced...and addicted, hears the anguish in his voice and I am moved....to tears.  Oh Gil, I hear you.  always have.   R.I.P. (rap in paradise) my friend....my teacher...my brother.   Rest well,   Someone here on Youtube once wrote "we stand on your sholders Gil."   I, for one , do not....I stand in your shadow Gil, in awe.

My grandmother often said success was waking up every morning to the first minute of a brand new day. She said every morning is a new gift and a blessing

What a poet! My personal all time favorite vocal poet. His album, Pieces of a Man, has got to go down as one of the top 100 greatest albums ever. If you are new to Gil Scott Heron, you need to explore all of his early work. This is a GIANT.

I love this song...It fills me up with every listen...."We want to be free yet we have no idea why we are struggling here faced with our every fear just to survive"....How real is that? God Bless Gil Scott Heron -Thank you for shining your light and illuminating the darkness with messages of hope, peace and prosparity.
  • This blows my mind. It is so rich with truth. Brilliant!! A stone cold classic.R.I.P. my Brother Heron,

Glad I am not alone. Many of the other comments resonate with me. Gil touches something very deep in all of us. Over 40 years for me. And it's almost like hearing it anew. Thank you Gil.
  • I'm 24 and glad I have a old soul....Gil makes you feel like you've known him before...The older you get the more you realize how messed up this world is...Pray we all find that freedom...

Great photography, captures the "essence" of life's stuggles, "pain", "hopes" "surrender" and final commitment..Beautiful work...

This song and Gil's look of "desolation and dejection" BREAK MY HEART. I loved him and I love this song. RIP, my father, brother, son . . .

This is as about as close to a musical prayer as I've ever heard of a song. This is theraputic and so deep. Makes me think of all that I haven't accomplished in life yet still time to be able to. I could listen to this to get up and go to bed just to carry towards another day
