Spherical Turning on a Manual Lathe

Published 2023-03-07
In our opinion, ball handles are the best type of locking lever. In this video, we introduce two possible methods of machining ball handles. This can be done entirely on a metal working lathe - a milling machine is not required for this project.

For those who are interested, here is an example of a spherical turning tool kit, sold by Hemingway Kits: www.hemingwaykits.com/HK1160

  • Short, sweet and to the point. A delicious treat. You do make it look so easy, though in reality I am sure it isn’t. BUT you do inspire me to have a go on my own Myford Super 7 lathe. Thank you for sharing. 👏👏👍😀
  • I'd love to see either a much longer video or a series of videos of you making the ball cutting attachment that fits the tool post.
  • Very nice work. It beats my method of welding a length of bar to a nut!
  • The instrumental melodies in the background makes the process works of the lathe artisan, super entertaining while the dialogues speak about. I like that style of editing the videos! ( Although I'm not yet a video producer).

Great video, I like your set up. Interesting to see your approach on those ball collets. Cheers
  • Excellent, was just reading book on that, so much easier to see those split collars in a video…

very nice! I use a small boring head to make balls, same setup as your dedicated turner. Thanks for sharing. I really enjoy your videos.. Much appreciated.
