In this video, we will try to recreate the guitar tone for the song Barracuda by Heart. We will build the preset on the Neural DSP Quad Cortex. I didn't have a whammy bar on my guitar, so I couldn't do the dives from the original as well.

Preset available here: cloud.neuraldsp.com/cloud/p/d9af9c62-b3de-42ed-8db…

While I did my best to get close to the tone, I realised there was too much gain after uploading and critiquing myself. My advice to anyone watching this is to put the gain down. I think you could ditch the overdrive pedal and rely on the amp. Many bands from this era used the amp for their distortion but leaned heavily on effects. I still don't think the final result was that bad, and the essence is there, but there's definitely too much gain.

The settings outlined in this video will allow you to replicate the tone on other modelling devices like the Line 6 Helix, Fractal FM3 or Fractal FM9. You could also get this tone on Neural DSP plugins like Fortin Cali and Tone King. Any amp modeller (software or hardware) would be able to get the tone for this song and album.

That was awesome Dwayne. This series you’re doing are one my favs on YouTube. Another fun song for you to consider might be BTO’s Takin’ Care of Business. Some great riffs.

lovely video! great work man, i would love to see you work out some shoegaze bands, since they usually use a lot of pedals at the same time, and change through the song, so it would be really cool the analyze you do into choosing the pedal settings. I think My Bloody Valentine (maybe When You Sleep or Only Shallow, pretty accesible songs) or Slowdive (Alison, 40 days or When The Sun Hits are my suggestions) could be really interesting. Again, thanks for your work! :)
