the brake light is not connected to the brake pedal so it will light up whenever the car reaches a deceleration threshold. In short, yes, the light will come up when you release the accelerator pedal IF the car thinks it needs to.

In the polestar there is a blended braking system so if you turn off OPD and press the brake pedal to slow, it still uses regenerative braking rather than the discs unless you brake so hard it needs both.
