Imagine had King Charles III still has Princess Diana. Her popularity would have helped King Charles III get more sympathy and support.

It’s just so interesting to have a King again. Some people have lived and died only having a Queen. But a King… it feels like we went back in time hundreds of years ago.

I actually am kind of optimistic, he’s had 70 years to obeserve his mother and for sure has taken some notes. In any case we won’t be expecting that long a reign and judging by the decisions the UK has made of late perhaps a voice of common sense in general would be helpful... Controveries aside, he spoke about organic food well before it was popular so certainly not the worst example of him using his voice. In any case other than for himself and his duty he also is doing it for his son to give him the time to take it all in before it will eventually be his time as well.

"The role of a monarch in the modern world is to protect the people from the politicians." - Franz Joseph, Emperor of Austria-Hungary
  • Hes been awaiting this moment for probably 70 when he was told he would be king of England. Imagine waiting an entire life time for this day and losing your mother at the same time.
  • What made Queen Elizabeth so spectacular especially around the world is that she came to the throne when Britain was still an great imperial power and she retained that magic even though Britain eventually relinquished that role Charles becomes king at a different era and time for Britain
  • In this moment, I can't help but imagine Princess Diana being named Queen and how that moment was tragically stolen from her.

I think it would be better that Charles rules as long as he could. That way William and Kate could raise their little ones long enough without the demands of the responsibilities of a reigning monarch. At this point their children need them more.

Gotta love how this video goes over nothing but the absolute worst possible outcomes

As a foreigner watching i feel bad for King Charles to be constantly scrutinized or already condemned for the certainty of not being as great as his mother. Everyone is different , give the man a break lol I think the public just can’t get passed the Diana incident, it was a messy affair and tragic ending thus it haunts him for the rest of his life.

An interesting but fundamentally flawed piece. Their thesis seems to be: “The King will continue to behave exactly as the Prince of Wales did” despite the fact that the Prince of Wales said and explained why this would NOT be the case.
  • Queen's health has been more poorly than news released. Charles has more than likely been doing the job as stand-in for last couple of years.
  • Give Charles the chance to serve his lifelong purpose. William will have his time, hopefully after his children are older.
  • Help please! At 9:57 in the video it mentions a letter between Asquith and King George V. Do you have a source for this? The letter would seem to be a remarkable event in British politics and yet I can't find a reference to this anywhere. Any information gratefully received!

I don't actually think he's going to be an “inclusive” king as they said in the video but an inclusive king in terms of real inclusivity.

I would argue that in terms of longevity the Japanese Imperial family has been more successful--more than twice as old as the British Monarchy--but I take your point.
  • I remembered watching Prince Charles and Princess Diana wedding on TV as a kid in Singapore. It was a great decade.

I still can't get over that we are watching history unfold in front of our very eyes. It's almost surreal.
