The Birmingham Six were sentenced to life imprisonment in 1975 and falsely convicted. Their conviction later squashed by the Court of Appeal in 1991. In 1993 and 1994, The Birmingham Six also received an undisclosed amount by The Sunday Telegraph The Sun news paper in an action for liability against both newspapers' their reporting of police statements.

The Guildford Four and Maguire Seven were wrongfully convicted in 1975 for crimes they did not commit. Their convictions were eventually quashed by the court of appeal after a long campaign for justice.
