Met Gala: Baffling Outfits and Big Money | Vantage with Palki Sharma

The Met Gala is one of the most elite fashion events of the year. The Gala was held in New York this week and about 400 guests were in attendance. But eventually, the Gala turned into a showcase of baffling outfits. It saw strange outfits made of sand and flowers, which fuelled memes and viral moments. But the Met Gala is less about fashion and more about money. It is a money-making machine in fashion. This year's event raised about $26 million, which is more than double of what the event raised a decade ago. And now, the Met Gala is being criticised for being disconnected from the real world. Palki Sharma brings you the report.

This is completely ridiculous. The MET Gala is held to raise funds for MET's costume exhibit. Its a fashion event and if you dont like the clothes, you can withhold indulging in conversation regarding the event. It is a FUNDRAISER so making money is literally its purpose. And the money is contributed towards fashion.....it goes towards fashion preservation and restoration. While a lot of the outfits were not creative, that doesn't take away from the ones that were. Fashion is art and is not always meant to be practical. And while you may criticise the outfits, there are a lot of people who get employed to work on that piece of clothing. Take Alia Bhatt's saree for example. It took 1905 hours to create and must have employed many skilled karigars. Above all, like sports, the MET is a big event for all those who take interest in fashion. Fashion is a hobby and having a journalism piece on it is just honestly ridiculous.

Not met gala...it should be madness gala....all dumbs met gala😂😂
  • And racism was at it's peak. The way these left side photographers beginning of the stairs snubbed Sabyasachi Mukherjee, they literally were laughing at him, discussing how they don't even know him. And quickly shouted by saying THANK YOU, it means you may go now so that they can capture Lea Michele who was just next to Sabyasachi. It shows how they treats every brown skin people. It was visible. If you see their live arrivals you will definitely get this. It's not only with Sabyasachi but they did the same with other brown people too. And you know what Just lack of awareness brought us to these. Forget about White Celebrities(which are rational) but Indian goes gaga over white people even roaming like a homeless in indian street. But the fact is white american only cares about either white or black(after decades of protest). And it needless to mention how much racial attack we indian are facing on our everyday life almost everypart of the so called developed countries including such a widely popular Canada! Let us take this matter seriously and we must act like Black community, today they are being heard because of their courageous nature and strong bonding with each other.
  • How can you show up to a fashion event in a mosquito net with tree branches in it😢😂
  • @booh12469
As usual Vanity placed way above Life's Reality.
  • @kiwi88888
the fact this is what people find important in life is a serious proof of humanity falling more apart and no one souls getting wiser. why bother if this all people want status and money.

Not everyone understands art, its just not everyone's cup of tea. Very disappointed in Palki for critiquing a field that she clearly has little to no knowledge on. Fashion isn't always about practicality, its also about showcasing art and months and years of hardwork goes into it! She did this one just for the views. Very distasteful indeed!
  • Now i agree that ...Urfi Javed is much better this 😂😂😂.....sry urfi we misunderstood u till this happen.
  • We don't understand fashion..... The wet t shirt you are telling.....just search what it refers and.... Your mosquito net is perfect for the event.... Cause that represents harsh winter and flowering just one rose And the sand dress it represents timeeeee.......... It's not to look good... It's art it has to be striking.... I would love if you do research on this then make this video.....

Asoka make-up challenge, popular in Philippines & Indonesia Tiktokers, feels more exciting & interesting than boring MET. lol.

Something is really wrong. Specially with the rich society. It seems like they are sold out to the dark to keep up the luxury and lavish life.
  • @Raja-it8en
Idk why mete gala gets so much hate its a fashion event to raise money its all about money what will it achieve to recognise the outside world what they have to do "connect to the real world" 😂😂😂
  • Well, the media has some role in perpetuating the issue. The media is not forced to cover the event

You are an amazing journalist Palki, and this channel is one of the best in India for legitimate news, but please don't make such videos and spread an ill narrative about things that might make others happy, or the things others are passionate about. Yes, I am talking about fashion! This event is one of the biggest nights in the fashion world, where creativity blooms and all the boundaries are shattered. It gives hope to young designers, stylist, fashion enthusiasts and fashion commentators to dream and get inspired. Everybody knows what is happening in the outside world, but this doesn't give anyone any right to target an event or a group of people. I guess the UN should be questioned, they should be targeted and asked to what they have done and why is that institution still standing on the corpse of the dead!
  • Are you kidding me! This report shows how disconnected and disinterested the reporters are in describing the garments and what meaning it holds.
