In this video I will show you what I did when this symbol was displayed on my dashboard, and my car would not start. This was a 2014 Chevy Equinox but similar issue with other GM vehicles.

  • This worked for me Step 1: Roll up your windows Step 2: Get out of the vehicle Step 3: lock the vehicle Step 4: wait 5-10 minutes Step 5: unlock, your car get into it and turn on the ignition
  • GM has whats called "on board programing". You are on the right track. However, when you were saying "you will keep doing it until it starts". That's not necessary. You need to turn the key on for 10 minutes then back off. Repeat two more times. Three ten minute cycles is exactly how it works. Please understand I am not trying to criticize your video. I am simply explaining how it works. In the mean time, you did a great job and clearly helping others. Great video my friend....
  • i just tried everything you said, and it worked and self programed my new keyfob. i repeated the steps 3 times then after the fourth it worked. thanks a lot

Regardless of your particular concern. Always check your fuses first. A blown fuse to the body control module will more than likely kill your vehicle depending on mfg.
  • Do you need to wait for 10 minutes an do all that stuff before light turns off and than insert 2nd key? Or you have just use the 2nd key after nothing else worked?

I have a 2013 Chevy equinox and my car lock symbol was on and I tried putting it in the start position and it was on for about 40 minutes and that didn’t work so I called a locksmith and they replaced my key and set up a new key fob and then I tried it and then it workedbut then the locksmith said that it would come back, but this video was super helpful so I just want to share my experience in case it would help somebody else

The anti-theft can really be a pain in the butt to trouble shoot.
  • The hazard warning lights only flash when the theft deterrent system is armed and the engine will not start. To restore the system ,turn the ignition key to the lock position then to the on position, now press the lock or unlock door button on the driver's door, then turn on the ignition, the car should start.

2011 chevy Cruze lt turbo owner here. Won't start. don't think it's the alternator, battery is charging. car just stopped working. Turns on and all bells and whistles light up on dash on cue BUT still no crank, just click. Anti-theft deterrent system not activated so I'm not locked out from that, so that's not the problem. What is out though is my hair.....from pulling it 🤬. Over this car 😅. Tried the key on and off method. STILL NO START. ANY suggestions would be appreciated ☺️. 2 Questions: 1) I do have a second key so I decided to check the battery in it. How do you remove the housing on fob to check the battery? 2) How do you self-program key fob? Thanks!
  • @MrPsalms27
So do you have to have the second key 🔑? What if you dont

I have a 2006 chevy cobalt. About a week ago my locks were popping up and down without me touching the locking switch. Now the locks dont work at all. I have a yellow theft light up now. Whenever I go open the doors the alarm goes off. Then it disappears whenever I turn the car on. Whats going on with my car??
