Nancy Pelosi’s recent visit to Taiwan has increased the ongoing tensions between China and the US over Taiwan, over which China vowed to “take resolute and forceful measures.” But what do ordinary Chinese think about their relationship to Taiwan?
A little while ago, we conducted a street interview in Taiwan to get ordinary Taiwanese citizens’ opinions on China. Be sure to check out the video for some context ►    • What Taiwanese Think of China | Stree...

We acknowledge that this is a very sensitive topic in China but we want to make it very clear, again, that we do not seek or possess any government’s permits for our street interviews in China. It’s actually pretty tough for us to put a video like this together but we can assure you that none of our interviewees get paid to share their thoughts and our team is standing out on the street to approach people for many hours a day. It’s all our Asian Boss community members, fans and freelancers who make these videos possible.
The opinions expressed in this video are those of individual interviewees alone and do not reflect the views of ASIAN BOSS or the general Chinese population.

What this has shown me, as most videos like this: people just want to peacefully coexist and be prosperous. Politicians are the problem.

I'm a oversea chinese, when i was in highschool, my closest friends are from taiwan, korea and japan. We always talked about if one day we become presidents we will unite asia haha but as i grew up i realize how ridiculous we were, and that's kind of very sad to think about.

    我是中国人,我很爱中国,很爱我的家。我也很喜欢台湾。不管统一不统一,我真诚地希望大陆和台湾的人民能抛开政治和平相处。战争不会对双方人民有利只会伤到老百姓。

I’m native Chinese. “China” to us is not a term we’d use to describe a nation or administration, but a civilization. We live on a land that has seen rises and falls of SO many dynasties and CCP is just one of them. It was China when ROC ruled, and it was China when Qing dynasty ruled. When I grew up, my text book said “Taiwan has always been an inseparable part of China” and this China, to my understanding, didn’t mean CCP. I have family members living and dying in Taiwan, because of the civil war, and I really don’t want a war to happen to us again. I also don’t think CCP wants a war. Wars are endless drainage of national wealth and the only country existing that had benefited from wars is the US. I’m pro status quo.

As a Taiwanese, I love my Chinese brothers. Hope this conflict can be resolved peacefully.

I'm Chinese and I wish for nothing but peace. I don't care if reunification happens or not. What's important is people can live safe, peaceful and prosperous lives.

I think the fundamental difference is that Taiwanese think that there is a difference is a huge problem, and the mainland Chinese think that there is a difference is not a big deal, in the eyes of Taiwanese this difference is enough to distinguish between two countries, and mainland Chinese think that this difference is just a difference between provinces or between the south and the north.

Shout out to the crew at Asian Boss for putting these incredible videos together. Always love to listen to both sides from over here in America. Especially since it is very difficult to get their perspectives from this side of the world.
  • As a Taiwanese, I would like to thank Asian Boss for these great interviews. For the woman who said that we did not show xenophobia several years back then, I can assure our friends from the other side. Even though there are more conflicts between Taiwan and China, the people here in general are still very friendly toward the Chinese, that has not yet change. What I am happy about this interview is that most people still wants and value peace. I do think "Peace" is the biggest consensive for both Taiwanese and Chinese. So we should both work together to keep it that way.

Amazing street interview. Thank you for sharing the insights. I can tell they are all very honestly answered what they are thinking.
  • I loved this video. At the end, regardless of nationality and political views, most people just want peace. I completely agree with the lady that said "China loves to demonize America and America loves to demonize China" because it's so true. These videos help people to create a better judgement about all this international drama and overpass biased views from both sides.

I am an American, and I really enjoy your videos. No need to defend yourselves. There are plenty of us that want to understand.
  • @RayMak
They are very true about the media influence. Younger Chinese are so open minded. We need to learn to love and be kind to each other. It can be achieved.

You really should get an award for these interviews. This clip and the last on the Phillipines prove Asian Boss going from excellent to incredible - so very informative and relevant. I love how you don't dumb down. Such thoughful and insightful questions and concise format, it is amazing how you can keep it up.
  • Thank you for your diligent reporting and transparency. I was unaware of the pressure your audience puts on you all. I want to say I really appreciate the embedded reporting you do. It brings Asia closer to many of us in the West. I'm like so many of the people who you interviewed, just yearning for global peace. I'd like to make a donation to encourage AB in this work.

👏👏 for pulling this vid together. I understand it is hard. Glad these people feel freely to express. I hope they don't get any repercussion.
