In a way I think this represents us people. We wear our armours and shields, protecting us from the world, always feeling under threat and ready to face conflict at every turn. But in reality I'm conviced we all, deep inside, seek only peace and tranquility. We often find it, if only ephimeral, but don't allow ourselves to inhabit it long enough for our armours to fall off and our shields to be laid down.
