I am an English teacher in Peru and I have discovered that the primary reason that students are not becoming conversational is because the language institutes are not teaching them how to write; only how to pass grammar exams. More and more my focus is becoming how it is that I can begin to introduce effective writing techniques into the curriculum. I've watched a number of videos on sentence structure and if I had to make a recommendation on the best video to watch, I'd say go to "Writing is Painless." I never thought that I could get so excited about something that is so important in impacting the lives of students. Teaching them to write effectively is so fundamentally important to their future, it boggles the imagination. What a tremendous opportunity we have as teachers. Thanks a bunch for your videos. Phil

Thank you so much. I am 40 years old and I have a hard time learning to write.I will watch all of these videos in hoping to become a better writer. My whole life has been a struggled when comes to writing. As you might see what I have written above, I’m sure there is some sentence structure error. I really need to learn how to write properly since I did not learned or taught properly in elementary or high school. I hope I can teach my daughter in grade 2 to write from what I learned so she does not have to go through what I gone through. A MI DA PHAT (best wishes), Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Thanks for sharing, it is definitely a big help. You do a excellent job breaking it all down. Very attractive Professor with natural acting talent (may need to think about pursuing potential opportunities in acting).

Thank you miss Saundra. Great.

Now it hit home ! I have to repeat a few times . I got it!!! If this is all of the 4 forms, it can't be that hard .

Since Susie sings , she belongs to a band , n she writes lyrics, too. Conjunctive adverbs make a sentence compound sentence . !!! That is a heureka!

Meaning to ask - in the (1) "Susie sings." (2) "She writes." example, does reorienting these as (3) "Susie sings and writes." (4) "Susie sings and she writes." represent (3) and/or (4) being compound sentences, despite omitting punctuation or conjunction as connectors in either? [I realize this is a completely different element of writing than discussing Sentence Structure, per se - but I have on occasion found it useful to employ one of all four of those sentence iterations, depending on the desired function for the sentence. I can't seem to locate a link to your blog - does it cover this sort of matter related to writing?]
